No-shows Macau defeat
BantamweightUFC
May 30, 2026
Smotherman lost to Kai Asakura via KO (Punches) at 1:50 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Macau, China.
ANALYSIS
This was a legitimate tough spot for Smotherman. The loser of back-to-back fights, he had to fly to the other side of the world to face a guy that challenged for the UFC Flyweight Championship in his company debut not all that long ago. Cameron's problem in the past has been his inability to defend a takedown. Here, it was his inability to take a punch. He was blasted by an Asakura flurry, forcing referee Marc Goddard to step in. Smotherman's October 2024 unanimous decision win over Jake Hadley in his UFC debut seems like decades ago. He's probably going to have to return to the regional scene and work his way back to the company.

Fighting Asakura in May
BantamweightUFC
April 2, 2026
Smotherman will take on Kai Asakura at UFC Macau on May 30, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Smotherman will head into the bout coming off back-to-back losses in UFC play. The 28-year-old American will take a slight height advantage into the bout compared to the older Japanese fighter. With a combined 19-5 professional record in KO/TKO finishes, fireworks can likely be expected in this one.
Will not fight Saturday
BantamweightUFC
January 23, 2026
Smotherman will not fight Ricky Turcios at UFC 324 on Saturday, according to Aaron Bronsteter of Sportsnet.
ANALYSIS
Smotherman passed out during his weigh-in for UFC 324, and not long after he required medical assistance, the promotion has canceled his recently upcoming fight against Turcios. What the former is dealing with is unknown, and his return to a UFC ring may not be in the near future.
Gets Turcios to start 2026
BantamweightUFC
December 14, 2025
Smotherman will take on Ricky Turcios in a bantamweight matchup at UFC 324 on Jan. 24, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Smotherman could be fighting for his roster spot here after dropping back-to-back decisions in the 2025 calendar year. He draws another struggling bantamweight in Turcios, who has also lost two in a row and three of his last four. On paper, this is an even matchup with both fighters sporting near-identical striking numbers. Turcios has a slight edge in reach.
Drops decision to Ricky Simon
BantamweightUFC
June 14, 2025
Smotherman lost to Ricky Simon via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Smotherman was truly awful in a unanimous decision defeat to Serhiy Sidey in early-May. He accepted a quick turnaround here against Simon following the withdrawal of Charles Jourdain (undisclosed) and again struggled, although this time it came as a +350 underdog. It's quite clear at this point that Smotherman has no defensive grappling to speak of. He allowed three takedowns to Simon, good for 9:13 worth of control time. If he wasn't flat on his back, he was getting pinned up along the fence. Smotherman has some pop in his hands, but he simply doesn't have the secondary skills to allow him to get to it. He looks nothing like the guy that defeated Jake Hadley via unanimous decision in his UFC debut last October.
Filling in at UFC Atlanta

ANALYSIS
Smotherman will step in for Charles Jourdain (undisclosed) at UFC Atlanta this weekend. The 27-year-old American is 1-1 during his time in the UFC and is coming off a loss against Serhiy Sidey in May.
