Brendson Ribeiro

The Gorilla

Brazil

Routed as massive underdog

April 4, 2026
Ribeiro lost to Abdulrakhman Yakhyaev via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:52 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Ribeiro entered having lost back-to-back fights via knockout, and the UFC tossed him into what was essentially a no-win situation here against one of the top prospects in the sport. It predictably didn't go well. Ribeiro made some headway on the feet early on, but he was eventually tossed to the mat and dominated, tapping out a little less than three minutes in. The Brazilian isn't without talent, but there's zero consistency here, even on a round-by-round basis. Ribeiro is sporting a 2-5 record in his past seven fights. Very few guys survive that, combined with three straight first-round stoppage defeats.

Ribeiro will face Abdulrakhman Yakhyaev in a light heavyweight matchup at UFC Vegas 115 on April 4, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ribeiro has hit a rough patch of late, dropping back-to-back fights via first-round knockout to fall to 2-4 under the UFC banner. He now draws the up-and-coming Yakhyaev, a fellow Contender Series product who picked up a first-round submission over Rafael Cerqueira in his UFC debut last November. Ribeiro will take height and reach advantages into a fight that could very well have his roster spot on the line.
Durability issues remain

Ribeiro lost to Oumar Sy via TKO (strikes) at 4:42 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.
ANALYSIS
This one played out exactly as expected, which wasn't great for Ribeiro considering he was the largest underdog on the card at +450. He gave up a pair of takedowns and 3:28 worth of control time to Sy in a fight which lasted less than a round. The Brazilian was eventually finished with a barrage of elbows and other assorted strikes while pinned to the mat. Ribeiro's above-average power is essentially totally negated by his poor durability and non-existent takedown defense. He's lost two in a row and may be fighting for his job his next time out.
Will take on Oumar Sy

June 28, 2025
Ribeiro will face Oumar Sy on a light heavyweight fight at UFC Paris on Sep. 6, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ribeiro has gone 1-1 over his last two fights, but his overall 2-3 record at the UFC level is worse than what the numbers suggest. He has serious durability issues, and his latest win came against an opponent who was making his promotion debut on Diyar Nurgozhay. Ribeiro will aim to bounce back from the TKO defeat he suffered against Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 316 on June 7.

Ribeiro lost to Azamat Murzakanov via TKO (punches) at 3:25 of Round 1 at UFC 316 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
ANALYSIS
This was very much the expected result given Ribeiro was a +500 underdog known for his durability issues, while Murzakanov is a stone-cold killer. Brendson has some pop in his hands and an underrated ground game, but his durability is simply not up to par to consistently compete at this level. Ribeiro was eventually dropped and gave up his back before several unanswered blows forced referee Mike Beltran to step in. The Brazilian's future is bleaker than his 2-3 career record with the company would lead you to believe.

ANALYSIS
Ribeiro is coming off a victory over Diyar Nurgozhay via submission at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. He will now take on Murzakanov, who is returning from a six-month suspension and last fought on August 2024, where he defeated Alonzo Menifield via KO.
