April 17, 2026
Anderson agreed to a three-year, $150 million extension with the Texans on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson's extension includes $134 million in guaranteed money and gives him the highest salary in NFL history for a non-quarterback. This contract also includes a no-trade clause. The 2023 first-round pick has been among the most dominant defenders in the NFL since entering the league, generating 30.0 sacks through three regular seasons.

2023
The Texans were questioned for trading up significantly in the draft to select Anderson third overall in 2023, but his production in his rookie season certainly suggests that deal will work out for the team. Even after playing the final quarter of the campaign at less than full strength, he finished 22nd in the league with 59 quarterback pressures (per PFF) while also playing more than serviceably against the run. With another year to hone his craft and prepare for the rigors of the NFL schedule, we should expect Anderson to take another step forward from his award-winning rookie campaign.
No player acquisition during the Texans' offseason created the level of buzz that Anderson did. After selecting quarterback C.J. Stroud with the second overall pick in April's draft, Houston boldly traded up from 12th to third to select Anderson. At Alabama, Anderson was the type of defensive end for whom opponents needed to scheme. The two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year winner steps immediately into an edge rusher spot for Houston, which had issues getting to the quarterback and stopping the run in 2022. Anderson should help solve the first issue.

Gets sought-after extension
DEHouston Texans
April 17, 2026
Anderson inked a three-year, $150 million extension with the Texans on Friday, DJ Bien-Aime and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson's contract is a milestone deal, as he is now the league's highest-paid non-quarterback. The pact, which includes $134 million in guaranteed money, vaults Anderson over the Packers' Micah Parsons in terms of average annual value and fully guaranteed money. Anderson's final push for the mammoth extension included finishing second in Defensive Player of the Year voting to the Browns' Myles Garrett in 2025.
