Simpson officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Colin Gay of The Tuscaloosa News reports.
ANALYSIS
After serving as a depth quarterback for Alabama during his first three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Simpson stepped into a full-time starting role as a redshirt junior in 2025. He established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, finishing the season with a 64.5 percent completion rate while throwing for 3,567 yards and a 28:5 TD:INT. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza profiles as the clear top quarterback in the draft class, but Simpson could emerge as the No. 2 option in the position group and may have a shot at coming off the board in the middle to back end of the first round.

Steelers may be back in mix

The Steelers could consider drafting Simpson if Aaron Rodgers remains unsigned prior to the NFL Draft, Brad Crawford of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Simpson has most often been connected to the Cardinals of late, with most national reporters suggesting the Steelers have minimal interest. However, with Rodgers' status unclear for the 2026 season, the team may change its stance on Simpson. The Alabama product is considered a competent quarterback prospect due to his ability to process quickly, but he lacks elite arm strength and made only 15 collegiate starts.
