Simpson officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Colin Gay of The Tuscaloosa News reports.
ANALYSIS
After serving as a depth quarterback for Alabama during his first three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Simpson stepped into a full-time starting role as a redshirt junior in 2025. He established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, finishing the season with a 64.5 percent completion rate while throwing for 3,567 yards and a 28:5 TD:INT. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza profiles as the clear top quarterback in the draft class, but Simpson could emerge as the No. 2 option in the position group and may have a shot at coming off the board in the middle to back end of the first round.

Goes third to Arizona in Davis mock
QBFree Agent

Thursday's mock draft from Charles Davis of NFL.com has Simpson going third overall to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Simpson seems to be getting more favorable draft buzz lately in a quarterback class bereft of obvious top prospects behind Fernando Mendoza, whom Davis unsurprisingly has going first overall to the Raiders. Davis curiously has the quarterback-needy Jets passing on Simpson in favor of versatile defender Arvell Reese before the Cardinals take the quarterback out of Alabama third overall, though Davis adds that Arizona may attempt to target Simpson later in the first round instead.
