His departure leaves Luke Doty as the next man on the depth chart, but the Gamecocks will most likely look to the transfer portal for its next starting quarterback heading into 2024.

Rattler entered the 2021 campaign as a Heisman hopeful for the University of Oklahoma but struggled to consistently move the Sooner offense and also battled ball security issues. Ultimately, he was replaced by dual-threat quarterback Caleb Williams under center in a highly publicized benching. Rattler is looking for a fresh start at South Carolina, and the Gamecocks have struggled to find even mediocre quarterback play in recent years. Rattler will hope to revert to his 2020 form in which he threw for over 3,000 yards and tossed 28 touchdowns. However, his value certainly takes a hit in terms of a step up in competition to the SEC, his struggles from last season as well as his move away from offensive wunderkind Lincoln Riley.
