Not expected to be ready for camp

Knee - ACL
May 27, 2026
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday that Parson (ACL) is expected to open training camp on the PUP list, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
LaFleur said no decision has been officially made yet, but it would be unsurprising for Parsons to miss the start of camp given Adam Schefter of ESPN's mid-May report that the team expects the star pass rusher begin the regular season itself on the PUP list. Until such time as Parsons is back in the starting lineup, Brenton Cox and rookie fourth-rounder Dani Dennis-Sutton will figure to handle increased roles in Green Bay's pass rush alongside Lukas Van Ness. Meanwhile, LaFleur offered optimism that Tucker Kraft (ACL), who underwent surgery roughly one month prior to Parsons, will be available to kick off training camp.

Parsons entered training camp patiently waiting for Jerry Jones to finally sit down and hammer out a massive contract extension, but there's some question that he'll be on the field Week 1 considering he has yet to practice and the two sides haven't made inroads on negotiations. The 26-year-old is arguably the most dangerous quarterback hunter in the league, recording at least 12.0 sacks in all four of his NFL seasons. Parsons will face a bit of a headwind from his new scheme, as defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus hasn't generally overseen dominant pass rushes, but Parsons' elite athleticism and talent are more than enough for him to make an impact in any defense.
Parsons set a new career high with 14.0 sacks last year, but he's been arguably the most consistent pass rusher in the NFL since being drafted 12th overall in 2021, producing 13.0 sacks as a rookie and 13.5 in 2022. Former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn lined him up all over the field looking for mismatches, but it's not yet clear how new DC Mike Zimmer plans to deploy Parsons, or whether the scheme change will have an impact on his numbers. The 25-year-old edge rusher's elite athleticism should allow him to thrive no matter how he's used, however.
Since being selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Parsons has emerged as one of the most dynamic defensive players in the league, racking up 26.5 sacks in his first 33 games for Dallas without even being a full-time pass rusher. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn sees the value in keeping offenses guessing by lining Parsons up all over the formation and using him in different roles, and while that makes the 24-year-old's ultimate statistical output tough to predict, his main job for the Cowboys will still be to terrorize quarterbacks.
There’s no comparison to the uniqueness and profound talent Parsons brings to the field, and it’s tough to project the specifics of his future since he can dominate in so many ways. The area of eventual focus is what will determine his IDP upside – more off-ball work means more tackles, so the more Parsons rushes the passer the less likely he is to rank at the top of IDP linebackers.
The 11th overall pick in the 2020 draft, Parsons graded as the top defensive player in the entire class on some boards. His sideline-to-sideline speed and burst to the ball are elite, giving him massive IDP upside as a tackle vacuum who also can rush the passer and handle coverage assignments. While he needs to refine his reads and positioning and learn when to lay back rather than be in all-out attack mode, physically there's little Parsons can't do on the field. The only thing standing between him and huge numbers as a rookie might be the competition for snaps from holdovers Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch.

Unlikely to play before Week 4
LBGreen Bay Packers
March 26, 2026
Parsons is expected to miss the first three or four weeks of the regular season as he recovers from a torn ACL, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Parsons underwent surgery on a torn ACL in his left knee in December, and the procedure typically carries a recovery time around nine months. Green Bay will likely give the star defender some additional time to ramp up before returning to game action, so Parsons is likely to miss multiple games.
