2025 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson is back with the Saints on a three-year, $30.75 million contract after setting career highs in targets (66), catches (50) and receiving yards (548) last season. The converted wide receiver scored only three touchdowns after recording 11 over his first two years as a tight end, but the lack of TDs can be chalked up in large part to the Saints’ struggles on offense as a whole. Johnson was limited to just six red-zone targets as the Saints scored 19.9 points per game (tied for eighth fewest). Starting QB Derek Carr missed seven games, and with Carr now retiring, Johnson likely will be held back by poor QB play again. At least Johnson is well positioned for steady playing time, as fellow Saints tight ends Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau are uncertain to be ready for Week 1 after having major knee surgeries late last season. Team-high yardage in finale
Johnson secured three of five targets for 61 yards in the Saints' 19-17 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end led the Saints in receiving yards while also securing a team-high 28-yard grab. Johnson had an opportunity for extra targets due to the absences of both Chris Olave (illness) and Mason Tipton (IR, groin), but Tyler Shough ended up spreading the ball around to seven different pass catchers overall. Johnson finished the 2025 season with a career-best 77 receptions and 889 receiving yards, and he totaled three touchdowns for the second consecutive season. Given the rapport Johnson flashed with Shough over the second half of the season, the former will head into 2026 with a very encouraging fantasy outlook

Johnson set career highs across the board in 2022 with 42 catches for 508 yards and seven touchdowns on 65 targets, but he took a step back in 2023, failing to get on the same page with new Saints quarterback Derek Carr for much of the season. Johnson saw only six fewer targets but dipped to 368 yards and four touchdowns. His 6.2 yards per target represented his lowest average yet, apart from a four-catch rookie year in 2020. The converted wide receiver saw his aDOT drop for a second straight year, down to 7.2, as he mostly competed for short targets with Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas while speedsters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed stretched the field. That whole group minus Thomas is back for 2024, plus jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill remains on hand to cut into Johnson’s playing time. Looking on the bright side, Johnson finished last year strong with 216 yards and three TDs over the final four games, and it's possible new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak won't use Hill at tight end as much as Pete Carmichael did.

Underrated member of FA class
Johnson is labeled by Bucky Brooks of NFL.com as a pending free agent who might be underrated.
ANALYSIS
Brooks notes Johnson, who once played wide receiver, has put together an impressive resume over the last three seasons in particular. Johnson has posted a 129-1,424-14 receiving line across 46 regular-season games in that span, and while Brooks concedes Johnson's blocking skills need improvement, he adds the fifth-year pro could thrive in a creative scheme that utilizes him in a "Joker" role.
