2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Browns moved on from Harrison Bryant, creating an opportunity for Akins, who had his worst season statistically in 2023. Prospects for him to improve are limited. David Njoku, who broke out in 2023, is the clear No. 1 option at tight end, and the Browns are focused on creating a wideout corps that can make use of quarterback Deshaun Watson's downfield proclivities. Akins, who has history with Watson in Houston, entered the summer season as the No. 2 TE, but it feels like the Browns could add another veteran. They did that already by signing Giovanni Ricci (formerly Carolina), a blocking tight end who can line up at fullback if needed. Read Past Outlooks
Set for expanded role
With David Njoku (knee) ruled out, Akins is expected to play an expanded offensive role Sunday against the Dolphins, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku sidelined in Week 15, Akins narrowly out-snapped Blake Whiteheart 33 to 23, but it was Akins who ran 25 routes to Whiteheart's seven in the pass game. Akins turned four targets into a 3-30-0 receiving line as the Browns' second-leading receiver in that contest. Akins is merely a desperation fantasy play at the tight end position in Week 17.

Lost amid a hectic offseason of target upgrades was the Browns adding Akins, who previously worked with QB Deshaun Watson when the two were with Houston. Ironically, his best year was 2022 when Akins had Davis Mills throwing him passes. Akins wasn't with the Texans 'organization in the preseason but rejoined his former team on its practice squad and finished with a team-high five TDs. While relinking with Watson is a good thing, the situation is different. There weren't many threats in a discombobulated offense last year, but Akins joins an outfit teeming with quality receivers and will back up David Njoku.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Another spot start imminent
Akins is slated to serve as the Browns No. 1 tight end in Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to David Njoku being ruled out with a knee injury, per Kelsey Russo of the team's official site.
ANALYSIS
Akins most recently started for Njoku in Week 15 against the Chiefs and recorded three receptions for 30 yards on four targets. Despite being set for expanded opportunity once again Sunday, the combination of the quality of the Dolphins' defense and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson's shortcomings fail to afford Akins a bright outlook in terms of expected production.
