2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gabriel, a 2025 third-round pick, was selected two rounds ahead of Shedeur Sanders but now appears to sit behind not only Sanders on Cleveland’s depth chart, but also veteran Deshaun Watson, who has recovered from his Achilles injuries. In 10 regular-season appearances as a rookie, including six starts, Gabriel struggled to generate production beyond short-area throws, posting a league-worst 5.1 yards per attempt while completing 59.5 percent of his passes for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Cleveland added rookie WRs KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston to the receiving corps, and a revamped offensive line should improve overall stability, but Gabriel enters 2026 without a clear path to meaningful playing time. Competing for depth role
Gabriel, who "had a very nice spring," per Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, approaches training camp competing for a depth role behind Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.
ANALYSIS
While the signal-caller competition between Watson and Sanders was a top storyline during Browns' offseason program, Gabriel -- who started six games a rookie -- and 2026 sixth-rounder Taylen Green are also still in the mix at the position. For now, it appears as though Gabriel and Green are slated for compete for the No. 3 QB job this summer, though injuries or even an unexpected transaction in the future could alter that narrative.

Gabriel, who the Browns took in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, will begin the regular season as the Browns No. 2 quarterback behind Joe Flacco, while fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders will operate as the emergency No. 3 option. The Browns are expected to get by with this trio this year before seeking a franchise quarterback in next year's draft, but they'll kick the tires on Gabriel for 17 weeks to see if he's a long-term fit.

Uphill battle in QB competition
Gabriel is behind Shedeur Sanders in Cleveland's offseason quarterback competition, which also includes Deshaun Watson, per Zak Patterson of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Todd Monken said he intends to have a starter in place by the early part of training camp in late July, and he added that spring reps won't be divided evenly, hinting that the majority may go to Sanders. Gabriel has not been in the building during the offseason, while Sanders spent the offseason in Cleveland, familiarizing himself with the new coaching staff. Watson remains tied to the Browns due to his onerous contract, and he has 72 regular-season starts under his belt, giving him a large edge in experience compared to Gabriel and Sanders, whom Cleveland selected in the third and fifth rounds, respectively, of the 2025 NFL Draft.
