Minnesota traded up to take Turner with the 17th overall pick in the 2024 draft. An all-American at Alabama, Turner racked up an SEC-leading 11.0 sacks as a true junior in 2023. Athletically, Turner is rather light for an NFL edge at 246 pounds but his athletic tools (4.46 40, 40.5-inch vertical, 34.38-inch arms) are elite. Turner, who the Vikings selected out of Alabama with the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, said Thursday he constantly feels the presence of recently deceased college and pro teammate Khyree Jackson, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Turner, who is excused from camp Friday to attend Jackson's funeral, played two seasons with the defensive back at Alabama and had been reunited with him in Minnesota's 2024 draft class. Turner has placed Jackson's nameplate above his own in his locker and plans to constantly keep his fallen teammate in his memory as the edge rusher goes through his rookie season. "He helped me realize who I was, and he helped me build my confidence off the field and on the field in a way," Turner said. "But he was definitely a very impactful person."
