2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Most of Hall's fantasy investors hoped he would escape the Jets in free agency and land on a team with a vaguely functional offense, but the Jets were right to keep Hall around with the non-exclusive franchise tag. Hall is clearly one of the better running backs in the league -- close to the top 10 at the position if not landing inside of it -- but we've seen for years now how the Jets manage to undermine his abilities between team failure and workload meddling. The Jets had begun to take Hall for granted and even seemingly scapegoated him for the team's broader offensive failures, raising talk of working him in a committee with fringe prospect Braelon Allen. Allen remains a candidate to take short-yardage carries and thus the precious few goal-line carries Hall might otherwise see, so the limitations on Hall from previous years might persist to some extent. The good news is that the Jets offense should be some amount better in 2026. It's a low bar and still nothing is guaranteed, but Geno Smith should be a meaningful upgrade over Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor. Smith's arrival is good for Hall's PPR value in particular, because plays that were incomplete passes or quarterback carries for Fields in 2025 might instead turn to targets for Hall, who is one of the best receiving backs in the NFL. As much as the touchdowns might remain scarce for Hall, the yardage and the reception totals should improve. Also, to the Jets' credit, their offensive line should be solid if not legitimately good. Officially gets non-exclusive tag
The Jets officially placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Hall (knee) on Tuesday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It was initially reported that New York would place the franchise tag on Hall, but the non-exclusive variation allows the running back to negotiate with other teams. The Jets will retain the right to match any offer and be entitled to two first-round picks as compensation from any team he signs with, a prohibitive enough cost to make any such deal unlikely. Still, Hall's ability to negotiate with other teams could open up trade possibilities in the event that he isn't able to reach terms on a long-term extension with the Jets by the July 15 deadline.

It's been a turbulent three seasons for Hall and the Jets, but Hall has acquitted himself well given the circumstances throughout. Neither his 2022 ACL tear nor the team-wide collapses in 2023 and 2024 could've been prevented by Hall, who was one of the few bright spots on the roster. The previous Jets regime brought in two rookie RBs last year, fourth-round pick Braelon Allen and fifth-rounder Isaiah Davis, but the bigger problem for Hall was a lack of TD opportunities and overall team rushing volume (363 carries, 32nd). Now that Hall is more than two years removed from his ACL tear and playing under a new coaching staff, he has a chance to reestablish himself as one of the NFL's top running backs. The Jets will need to call a run-heavy offense with QB Justin Fields, whose presence should be good news for Hall's rushing volume and efficiency but bad news for his receiving workload. This is a talented player who has experienced only bad luck in the NFL, and his luck might improve soon.

Predicted for FA departure in '27
Kevin Patra of NFL.com predicts Hall will play out 2026 on his franchise tender and depart the Jets next offseason.
ANALYSIS
In reviewing the individual scenarios for several players currently sporting the franchise tag, Patra makes a case for this coming season being Hall's last in New York. The versatile back is slated to earn $14.3 million under the tag in 2026, and Patra feels the Jets' offseason additions on offense will help Hall to another highly productive season as the beneficiary of less defensive attention. However, he also envisions the team making a late push to sign him to an extension but predicts Hall will bet on himself and hit the open market next offseason.
