Hot and Cold: Hot and Cold (10/28)

This article is part of our Hot and Cold series.

ACC

Hot

Miami (FL) quarterback Jacory Harris has accounted for multiple touchdowns in four of his last give games. He has recorded double-digit fantasy points in each of his seven games and is on pace to match last year's total of 24 passing touchdowns.

Georgia Tech running back Anthony Allen scored six touchdowns over his last three games. He is averaging 6.0 yards per carry this season and will set a new career high in rushing with five more yards.

Cold

Duke wide receiver Donovan Varner has been held to 55 yards or fewer in five of his previous six games; and after scoring eight touchdowns last season, he has hauled in just one touchdown pass this season.

After totaling 710 receiving yards a season ago, Florida State wide receiver Bert Reed is on pace for only about 525 yards this season. He did score on a 42-yard run last week but has not recorded more than 42 receiving yards in any of his last four games.

Big 12

Hot

Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter has run for over 100 yards in each of his last four games. Over that span, he has picked up 558 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

Baylor is really moving the ball through the air thanks to the strong play of quarterback Robert Griffin, and wide receiver Josh Gordon has become a big part of the offense. Gordon has recorded at least one touchdown in five of the Bears' last six games.

Baylor is really moving the ball through the air thanks to the strong play of quarterback Robert Griffin, and wide receiver Josh Gordon has become a big part of the offense. Gordon has recorded at least one touchdown in five of the Bears' last six games.

Cold

Kansas running back James Sims scored three touchdowns in the first three collegiate games he appeared in, but he has not found the end zone in any of the Jayhawks' last three games. Over that span, Sims has recorded just 128 total yards.

Rex Burkhead was a key part of the Nebraska running attack early on, but he has run for only 133 yards, and has not found the end zone, over the last three weeks.

Big East

Hot

Pittsburgh quarterback Tino Sunseri has picked up his play in recent weeks. Sunseri has accounted for multiple touchdowns in each of his last three games and has thrown for at least 272 yards in each contest.

Cincinnati's offense has really been clicking lately, and wide receiver Armon Binns has put up huge numbers as a result. Over his last three games, Binns has caught 25 passes for 448 yards and an impressive seven touchdowns.

Cold

South Florida running back Moise Plancher scored four touchdowns in the first four weeks, but he has not found the end zone in his last three games and has just 132 rushing yards over that span.

Louisville wide receiver Josh Bellamy hauled in four touchdown passes over Weeks 5 and 6, but he has been held to just three catches for 19 yards over his last two games.

Big Ten

Hot

Minnesota wide receiver Da'Jon McKnight did not catch a touchdown pass last season, but he has already hauled in nine in eight games this season, including six in his last three games.

Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for a season-high 331 yards last week and also tossed three touchdown passes. He has 14 touchdowns, compared to just four interceptions, for a perfect MSU squad.

Cold

Wisconsin quarterback Scott Tolzien has completed a remarkable 71.8 percent of his passes, but his accuracy has not translated into big fantasy numbers. Tolzien has not thrown for more than 246 yards in any game this season and has just three touchdown passes over his last four games.

Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell scored seven touchdowns in his first four career games, but fellow running back Edwin Baker has been the Spartans' primary ball carrier in conference play. Bell has been held just one touchdown and 178 rushing yards over the last four weeks.

Conference USA

Hot

Tulane wide receiver Casey Robottom has become a fantasy factor in recent weeks. Robottom has caught at least six passes in each of his last four games and has totals of 391 yards and four touchdowns over that span.

Central Florida running back Ronnie Weaver has either scored multiple touchdowns or run for over 100 yards in each of his last five games. Last season's top rusher, Brynn Harvey, has decided to take a redshirt because his injured knee has not healed as planned, so Weaver will continue to dominate the carries the rest of the way.

Cold

Marshall wide receiver Antavious Wilson got off to a quick start, but he has been limited to just 10 catches—none of which went for a score—for 118 yards over his last three games.

UAB running back Pat Shed has been the team's primary running back the entire season, and though he is averaging an impressive 5.9 yards per carry, he has not run for more than 69 yards in any of his last four games.

Independents

Hot

Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs accounted for four touchdowns in a Week 8 victory over Notre Dame. Dobbs has not thrown for more than 100 yards in the last three games, but he has rushed for 252 yards and has a total of nine touchdowns over that span.

Cold

Notre Dame running back Armando Allen has rushed for just 122 yards over his last three games, which includes a zero-yard effort in Week 7 against Western Michigan.

MAC

Hot

Western Michigan quarterback Alex Carder threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns in a Week 8 victory over Akron. Carder has accounted for 11 touchdowns, including five on the ground, over his last three games.

Western Michigan wide receiver Juan Nunez has been on the receiving end of a lot of Carder's passes lately. Nunez has hauled in 22 passes over the last three weeks and has totals of 366 yards and four touchdowns over that span.

Cold

Buffalo quarterback Jerry Davis threw 11 touchdown passes in his first five games, but he also threw an astounding 11 interceptions over that span. Davis threw just one touchdown pass in Week 7, and after starting 0-for-5 last week, he was replaced by freshman quarterback Alex Zordich. Zordich did not fare much better, throwing three interceptions of his own, but Davis is a risky fantasy option right now since his playing time is no longer guaranteed.

Ball State running back MiQuale Lewis is a long way removed from his 2,000-total-yard season of 2008. Lewis rushed for a season-high 96 yards last week, but he has not found the end zone since Week 3 and has rushed for more than 50 yards in only two of his eight games.

MWC

Hot

Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn missed two games earlier this season, but he has been a big fantasy contributor in the five games he has appeared in. Wynn has thrown at least two touchdowns in each of those games and is averaging over 250 yards per game.

San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley has a pair of dominant receivers in Vincent Brown and DeMarco Sampson, which has allowed him to put up big numbers for the Aztecs. Lindley has tossed nine touchdown passes over his last four games and is leading the conference with 1,890 passing yards.

Cold

Wyoming quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels has really struggled lately. Over the last four games he has appeared in (he missed a Week 6 matchup with TCU due to an injury), Carta-Samuels has recorded just one touchdown pass and 362 passing yards.

Wyoming running back Alvester Alexander was held to minus-seven rushing yards in last week's loss to BYU, and he has not run fore more than 44 yards in any of his last four games. It's little surprise that Wyoming is ranked last in the nation in total offense with both their starting quarterback and running back struggling to put up numbers.

Pac 10

Hot

Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor has rushed for at least 100 yards in four straight games and has recorded four touchdowns over the last three. He's not Toby Gerhart, but he's still a must-start due to Stanford's commitment to the run.

Washington State quarterback Jeff Tuel is leading the conference with 2,033 passing yards. He threw four touchdowns in a loss to Stanford a week ago and has tossed 14 touchdown passes in his eight games this season.

Cold

Washington State running back James Montgomery has not rushed for more than 50 yards in a game since Week 2, and he has been held out of the end zone in five of his eight games this season.

Arizona State running back Deantre Lewis ran for over 100 yards in three straight games from Weeks 3-through-5, but he has received just 13 carries and run for only 39 yards in the two games since. Lewis will likely continue splitting the carries with Cameron Marshall this week.

SEC

Hot

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is no longer playing in the high-powered Oregon offense, but that has not stopped him from putting up big numbers with Ole Miss. Masoli has recorded double-digit fantasy points in each of his last six games and has a total of 13 touchdowns this season.

With the number of big-name quarterbacks in the SEC, it is a bit surprising that Kentucky's Mike Hartline ranks second in the conference for passing yardage. Hartline has done most of his damage in the last two weeks. Over that span, he has thrown for 702 yards and eight touchdowns.

Cold

Vanderbilt running back Warren Norman has been limited to 60 total yards or fewer in three of his last four games. He is averaging a sound 6.0 yards per carry, but he has received seven carries or fewer in each of the three games he provided minimal production.

Arkansas running back Broderick Green ran for 11 touchdowns last season, but he has just two through seven games this season. Knile Davis has become the top option in the Arkansas backfield.

Sun Belt

Hot

Kawaun Jakes' three touchdowns in Week 8 helped Western Kentucky halt a 26-game losing streak. Jakes is not putting up big yardage in the passing game, but he has accounted for eight touchdowns over the last three weeks.

Middle Tennessee quarterback Dwight Dasher is back at the helm after sitting out the first four games, and though he has not thrown for more than 219 yards in a game, he has recorded two touchdowns in each game and is averaging 20 fantasy points per start.

Cold

Arkansas State running back Derek Lawson scored three touchdowns in his first four games, but he has not found the end zone since Week 4. Over his last four games, Lawson has recorded just 242 total yards.

Middle Tennessee running back D.D. Kyles recorded over 1,000 total yards last season, but he has taken a back seat to Phillip Tanner in 2010. Kyles has run for only 88 yards over his last three games and is on pace for only about 600 total yards this season.

WAC

Hot

Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz has thrown for nearly 600 more yards than any other quarterback in the nation this season, and his 22 touchdowns are also tops among all quarterbacks. Moniz was held to just one touchdown pass last week, but he threw for over 330 yards for the sixth time in his last seven games.

While Moniz leads the nation in passing yardage and touchdowns, Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is leading the way with a 188.3 quarterback rating. Moore has recorded three touchdowns in five of his seven games this season, and while he has not run for a touchdown, he did catch a touchdown pass in Tuesday's victory over Louisiana Tech.

Cold

Utah State running back Derrvin Speight has been limited to just 83 total yards over his last two games. He will need to be more productive if the Aggies hope to keep the ball away from Nevada and quarterback Colin Kaepernick in Week 9.

Fresno State wide receiver Jamel Hamler recorded 252 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his first three games, but after missing Week 5 with a shoulder injury, he has been held to 118 receiving yards and zero catches in the three games since.
