Quarterback
Trevor Harris, OTT vs. SSK ($10,000): Mike Reilly is always an option if you're paying up at quarterback, but at a price tag of $11,400 after a spectacular Week 1, he's not going to fit in everyone's budget. Harris comes at a nice discount and will take aim at a Riders secondary that he found solid success against on a couple of occasions late last season. In Week 17, he mustered a respectable 262 yards and two touchdowns (and one interception) against Saskatchewan, and he closed out the season by compiling 457 yards and another pair of scores against them in the first round of the playoffs. The Riders were a relatively stingy unit overall and did pick off Harris a combined three times over that pair of contests, but the veteran is coming off a career-best 4,679 yards on a career-high 572 pass attempts in 2017, as well as his second 30-touchdown season. He's essentially a lock to put the ball up plenty, and all reports are that the leg injury he suffered in the preseason opener won't be a hindrance.
Jeremiah Masoli, HAM at EDM ($9,700): Masoli came up short in the closing moments of the Week 1 loss to the Stampeders, throwing an ill-advised pass as the Ti-Cats were driving for a potential score. However, he put up a fine fantasy line, finishing with 344 passing yards and also scoring a rushing touchdown on his way to 21.96 fantasy points. He'll be locked into what should be a four-quarter shootout against Mike Reilly and company in Week 2, which would leave him poised to take advantage of an Eskimos defense that proved plenty permeable in Week 1 against the Blue Bombers. Edmonton saw rookie quarterback Chris Streveler of Winnipeg throw three touchdown passes against them in the opener, and Masoli brings considerably more experience, as well as a dangerous receiving corps that includes Mike Jones, Luke Tasker and Jalen Saunders.
Chris Streveler, WPG at MTL ($7,800): As just alluded to, Streveler held his own in his pro debut against the Eskimos, firing a trio of scores. While his 178 passing yards were a modest figure and he also suffered two interceptions, Streveler turned in a strong fantasy effort overall (20.12 fantasy points). He showed off his running dimension by tallying 30 yards on seven carries, as well, and he'll be facing an Alouettes squad that allowed 117 yards on the ground to the Lions in the opener, including 57 to quarterback Jonathon Jennings. The Als were also ranked last in several defensive categories last year, furthering Streveler's case as the lowest-priced starting quarterback in Week 2.
Running Back
Andrew Harris, WPG at MTL ($7,700): Harris got his season off to a strong start with 14 rushes for 77 yards against the Eskimos in Week 1, but he was surprisingly a non-factor in the passing game (three receptions, six yards). However, that certainly shouldn't be expected to be the norm, given Harris' previous body of work as a pass catcher. The veteran back should find plenty of success against an Alouettes defense that he touched up last season for 25 rushes, 116 yards and two rushing touchdowns, as well as 13 receptions for another 124 yards. Harris posted more than Week 1's atypical three-catch total in all but four games last season, and given rookie Chris Streveler's likely need for an outlet option, Harris should see more action through the air this week.
Tyrell Sutton, MTL vs. WPG ($6,800): Harris' Montreal counterpart Sutton should also see his fair share of action in the Alouettes-Blue Bombers matchup, given that he too is a legitimate dual threat capable of shouldering a heavy workload. The veteran is the clear-cut lead runner in Montreal, a role that he parlayed into 96 yards of total offense (65 rushing, 31 receiving) in Week 1 against the Lions, leading to a solid 14.6 fantasy points. Sutton's price has actually come down $300 from last week, making him especially appealing against a Blue Bombers squad that began the year looking just as vulnerable on defense as they did in 2017. Winnipeg gave up a late eight-point lead to the Eskimos, while surrendering 408 passing yards on 32 completions to Mike Reilly. While they proved fairly stingy against the run, C.J. Gable was limited to just nine carries in the contest. Sutton should see considerably more work, and his robust role in the offense should carry him to another strong fantasy return on his mid-tier price.
Don Jackson, CGY at TOR ($5,800): Any questions on who the Stampeders' top running back currently is appeared to be answered in Week 1, when Jackson led the way for Calgary's ground attack with 12 rushes for 87 yards and a touchdown, along with a two-point conversion run. Backup Terry Williams is going to get some work as well, but he's also pulling double duty as a returner, so Jackson is likely to remain the workhorse of the two. The Argonauts gave up 111 rushing yards overall to the Riders in Week 1, and Jackson is likely to have enough opportunities to have a chance at another strong outing in what should be an evenly-matched contest.
Wide Receiver/Slotback
Derel Walker, EDM vs. HAM ($9,800): There's no reason to move off Walker at receiver if you're spending up in Week 2, not after the Eskimos' top pass-catching option kicked off the new season with a 101-yard touchdown reception on his way to a 176-yard day and a massive 34.2 fantasy points overall. After one week, Edmonton already leads the CFL in completions, pass attempts and passing yardage and that's unlikely to change much throughout the season as long as the prolific Mike Reilly is healthy and under center. The Ti-Cats allowed 297 passing yards to Bo Levi Mitchell in Week 1, and for what it's worth, Walker posted 19 receptions and three touchdowns versus Hamilton over two of three games in 2016, the last season in which he faced them. Reilly also found plenty of success against the Ti-Cats secondary last season, amassing 667 yards and a 5:0 TD:INT.
Chris Williams, MTL vs. WPG ($7,700): Williams got his Montreal career off to an impressive start in Week 1 by leading the receiving corps with six receptions for 98 yards (15.8 fantasy points). The strong opening effort was especially encouraging considering Williams' mostly disappointing year in BC last season. It appears he has some good chemistry with quarterback Drew Willy already, which could certainly come into play again in Week 2 in what might be sneaky high-scoring affair. Both defenses have an abundance of question marks, meaning that the Alouettes may be forced to remain aggressive. That would suit Williams' fantasy prospects just fine, especially against a Bombers secondary that gave up the most passing yards, completions and pass attempts in the CFL in their Week 1 matchup against the Eskimos, and that was similarly porous in 2017.
Diontae Spencer, OTT vs. SSK ($7,500): Spencer enjoyed a strong all-purpose year last season, racking up 922 receiving yards and six touchdowns, along with another 1,796 yards and two more scores on kick, punt and missed field-goal returns. His synergy with Trevor Harris should be even better this season, and if his work in his last two games against the Roughriders in 2017 is any indication, he could be ready to kick off the new season in fine fashion. Spencer put up three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown against the Riders in Week 17 last year, and he followed that up with a mammoth nine-reception, 157-yard, one-score effort in the first round of the playoffs. He should once again help helm the Redblacks' high-octane air attack this season, which will leave him on the receiving end of plenty of targets from Harris.
Mike Jones, HAM at EDM ($6,400): Jones' teammate Jalen Saunders ($7,200) is also a fine option if you're able to spend a few extra hundred, while the Eskimos' Kenny Stafford ($4,500) makes for a great cost-savings pivot as well. However, Jones falls in the middle of both price-wise but could certainly pay off handsomely in what projects to be a high-scoring affair against the Eskimos. The 25-year-old led the way for the Ti-Cats in Week 1 with 120 receiving yards, and it's worth noting that he was solid against the Eskimos in a part-time role over two games last season (seven receptions, 82 yards). The Eskimos gave up three touchdowns to rookie Chris Streveler on Week 1, and the damage could be more extensive against the much more experienced Jeremiah Masoli and the talented Ti-Cats pass-catching corps in Week 2.
Team Defense
Calgary Stampeders at Toronto Argonauts ($4,900): The Stampeders will no doubt be out for blood in the Grey Cup rematch, and they'll seek to replicate their 2017 regular-season success against Ricky Ray in the process. The Stamps – which gave up the fewest points (349) and tied the Argonauts for most sacks (50) last season – held Ray to his lowest passing yardage total of the season (139) in Week 7, as well as third lowest (220) in Week 10. For perspective, consider that the ageless signal caller threw for at least 300 yards in every other game except two. Ray was better in the Grey Cup with 297 yards, but it took overtime for him to reach that mark and he still threw for only one touchdown. The Stamps defense bent but ultimately didn't break in Week 1 against the Ti-Cats, while Ray didn't look completely in synch in Week 1 against the Riders, failing to throw a touchdown while getting picked off once and managing a modest 233 passing yards. The Argos' other main offensive weapon, James Wilder, Jr., had a quiet five rushes for 16 yards in that contest, and he was held to 13 yards (and one touchdown) on nine rushes and just two catches for 18 yards versus the Stamps in the Grey Cup last season.
