A strong camp earned Dezenzo an Opening Day roster spot, where he served as a reserve, primarily playing corner outfield with some first base and DH work sprinkled in. His production mirrored that of the previous season when he was placed on the 10-day IL in late May due to left hand inflammation. A month later, he was diagnosed with a capsule strain, which prematurely ended his season. Dezenzo has struggled to maintain the advanced plate skills he demonstrated in the low minors, partly due to injuries over the past two seasons. He has a knack for barreling the baseball, but he needs to cut down on the 33.9 percent strikeout rate he has recorded in the majors. Dezenzo missed most of the spring with a wrist injury. He was assigned to Double-A Corpus Christi to open the 2024 season, then was placed on the 7-day IL After a rehab stint in the Florida Complex League, Dezenzo returned in late June. Despite a weak .678 OPS over 22 games, he was promoted to Triple-A Sugarland. Dezenzo found his stroke with the Space Cowboys, posting a .998 OPS in 25 games before being called up to The Show. In 29 games with the Astros, Dezenzo recorded a below average 84 wRC+ as he was unable to carry his strong plate skills to the majors. His batted ball metrics are promising, but since corner infield and DH are blocked, Dezenzo is earmarked to open the season back at Triple-A where he'll try to reestablish a strong approach while awaiting an opening in the bigs.

The Astros are expected to call up Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, per Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston, and Dezenzo is one of the likely candidates to potentially lose his roster spot.
