2025 Fantasy Outlook
Dezenzo missed most of the spring with a wrist injury. He was assigned to Double-A Corpus Christi to open the 2024 season, then was placed on the 7-day IL After a rehab stint in the Florida Complex League, Dezenzo returned in late June. Despite a weak .678 OPS over 22 games, he was promoted to Triple-A Sugarland. Dezenzo found his stroke with the Space Cowboys, posting a .998 OPS in 25 games before being called up to The Show. In 29 games with the Astros, Dezenzo recorded a below average 84 wRC+ as he was unable to carry his strong plate skills to the majors. His batted ball metrics are promising, but since corner infield and DH are blocked, Dezenzo is earmarked to open the season back at Triple-A where he'll try to reestablish a strong approach while awaiting an opening in the bigs. Cracks Opening Day roster
Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Dezenzo has made the Opening Day roster, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
With Christian Walker (oblique) expected to be fine for Opening Day and Jose Altuve and Cam Smith claiming the corner outfield jobs, Dezenzo wouldn't appear to be in line for regular time. His bat has potential, however, making him worth keeping an eye on should circumstances push him into the lineup.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Roster spot could be in jeopardy
The Astros are expected to call up Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, per Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston, and Dezenzo is one of the likely candidates to potentially lose his roster spot.
ANALYSIS
Dezenzo was promoted by the Astros on Aug. 6 and has gone 5-for-25 with a solo homer in his first six big-league games. Houston continues to look for answers at first base, but the 24-year-old isn't off to a great start defensively with one error in just 46 innings. The Astros could also look to move on from Jon Singleton or Aledmys Diaz, but sending down Dezenzo would allow him to receive more consistent playing time in minors. Whitcomb is one of the Astros' top remaining prospects after they were active shoppers at the trade deadline, so he'll presumably have the upper hand for playing time.
