Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Caratini received a career-high 386 plate appearances in 2025, due in large part to injury issues to Yordan Alvarez. The 32-year-old was reasonably productive, posting a .728 OPS while setting a new career high with 12 home runs. Caratini slashed .263/.329/.406 during his two years in Houston, and as a switch hitter with even career splits, he's among the better backup catchers in baseball since he won't kill you if forced into regular playing time. He will again be an understudy in 2026 -- this time for Ryan Jeffers -- after inking a two-year deal with the Twins over the winter. It's not the type of profile you want to use a draft pick on in fantasy leagues, but Caratini can sometimes be a useful in-season pick-up. Read Past Outlooks
Drawing 10th straight start
Caratini will start at designated hitter and will bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Analysis
Though Caratini doesn't sit atop the depth chart at any spot, he's been able to see steady playing time this season through his duties as the Twins' backup catcher and as a platoon partner for the left-handed-hitting Kody Clemens. Caratini will draw his 10th consecutive start Wednesday, with six coming at first base or DH against lefties and the other four coming as a catcher versus righties when Ryan Jeffers has received a breather.

Caratini inked a two-year contract with the Astros in December of 2023, and he proved to be one of the best backup catchers in baseball during 2024, both offensively and defensively. He launched eight home runs in 87 games and had a .269/.336/.408 slash line, which helped him net 11 appearances at first base, which doubled his playing time at the position from the previous four years combined. Yainer Diaz is locked in as Houston's starting backstop, but Caratini could have some streaming upside if he's able to produce similarly in 2025, which seems realistic given his .263 xBA and .407 xSLG last year. He could gain broader appeal if Diaz misses any significant time.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Backup option for Phillies
The Phillies could sign Caratini if they move on from J.T. Realmuto, Matt Gelb and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report.
Analysis
The Phillies' preference is to re-sign Realmuto, but the two sides aren't close to a deal and the team could opt to use some of that money to pursue Bo Bichette instead. Gelb and Rosenthal are hearing that Caratini is willing to delay his free-agent decision until there's more clarity on Realmuto, as the Phillies would provide a better opportunity than most other teams. Caratini finished 2025 with a .728 OPS and a career-high 12 homers.
