2026 Fantasy Outlook
A third-round draft pick in 2019, Callihan reached the majors last season, debuting with Cincinnati at the end of April after a .303/.410/.528 start at Triple-A Louisville. In just his fourth MLB game, Callihan crashed into the wall at Truist Park in Atlanta and broke both bones in his left forearm, necessitating surgery. He was starting to ramp up in June but required a follow-up procedure in July, which ended his season. Callihan doesn't pack a ton of power, but he has twice reached 20 steals on the farm. He bats from the left side, has displayed respectable on-base skills and can play both second base and left field. The odds are against him making the big club out of spring training, as it seems more likely that he will have to prove his health to begin 2026. The Reds can easily justify using one of his remaining options and stashing him as minor-league depth until either injuries or performance force their hand. Read Past Outlooks
First hit with Pirates
Callihan went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and an RBI on Thursday against the Cubs.
Analysis
Callihan was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday but wasn't in the starting lineup. He entered the game in the fourth inning after Nick Gonzales exited with a knee injury, and Callihan went on to deliver an RBI double in the sixth inning. That marked his first hit as a Pirate, and he could pick up extra playing time if Gonzales is sidelined for an extended period.

Callihan, who's recovering from a broken left forearm and a wrist injury, said he's a "full-go" for spring training, according to Pat Brennan of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Analysis
Callihan missed most of the 2025 season after colliding with the wall in Atlanta, which resulted in a broken left forearm and wrist. He was limited to four games and six plate appearances in the 2025 regular season, but now that he's healthy and ready to roll, he should compete for a utility role with the Reds.
