2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
It took four seasons, but Suzuki finally came through on the power numbers fantasy managers and Chicago fans have been pining for since the slugger came over from the JPL prior to the 2022 season. Suzuki leaned into a heavier elevate-and-celebrate approach as career highs in Pull percentage and FlyBall percentage led to career-best totals in home runs and RBI. The new approach came with the tax of his batting average, which declined nearly 40 points from where it had been the two seasons prior, which simply dropped his batting average down to a league-average level. The trade-off for increased run production was likely worth it to many fantasy managers who also enjoyed Suzuki avoiding the injured list for the first time in his major league career. He now enters the final year of his initial contract with the Cubs, so if you are a believer in contract year magic, especially after watching what Kyle Schwarber just did in his walk year, this is a 2026 target for you. Realistically, his 2025 performance is repeatable, while 40 homers would be a super stretch goal. Read Past Outlooks
Could DH often against lefties
Suzuki figures to see regular playing time in right field but will also be a top DH option, particularly against lefties, while Matt Shaw may frequently cover right field, Bruce Levine of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Analysis
Shaw played third base almost exclusively as a rookie in 2025, but the addition of Alex Bregman will push the former into more of a utility role. The Cubs are expected to use Shaw some in the outfield, particularly against lefties, who he performed much better against last year. Shaw's ability to play right field will allow Suzuki to get plenty of days off from playing the field, even with the offseason departure of Kyle Tucker creating a sizeable hole in right. Suzuki made 102 of his 149 regular-season starts at DH in 2025, and he enjoyed a career year from a power standpoint, blasting 32 home runs to go along with 103 RBI and an .804 OPS. Moises Ballesteros (personal) figures to be Chicago's other primary DH option on days when Suzuki plays the field.

Stat Review
How does Seiya Suzuki compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.
* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Suzuki's decimals were eerily like the previous season's, but he took a slightly different route. His quality of contact ticked up but so did his strikeouts. However, Suzuki rarely chases and he walks at an above-average clip, so there's hope he can revert to lower strikeout levels while retaining elevated hard-hit and barrel rates. Durability remains an issue with Suzuki missing at least 24 games for the third straight season, though he did manage a career high plate appearances in 132 games. He missed almost a month early with an oblique strain, then played regularly the rest of the way. Suzuki more than doubled the number of steals he gathered over his first two seasons, yielding three ways he can improve: more contact, better health and continuing to ramp up running. There is a lot to like here.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No extension imminent
Suzuki stated Monday that he hasn't discussed a contract extension with the Cubs, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis
Suzuki noted that he's content with working hard to prove that he's deserving of an extension, stating "I want to work hard and perform well, and hopefully they say yes," per Lee. Suzuki put up impressive power numbers in 2025, swatting a career-high 32 home runs while driving in 103 runs over 151 regular-season appearances. He's been a productive member of the Cubs over his four MLB seasons, but it seems the organization is assessing other priorities before focusing in on a new deal for Suzuki.
