2026 Fantasy Outlook
Things couldn't have gone much worse for Vargas down the stretch of the 2024 season after he landed in Chicago at the trade deadline. The former top prospect took a step forward in his first full season with the Pale Hose, however, cranking 16 home runs and 32 doubles across 138 contests. The plate discipline Vargas was known for as a prospect finally showed up, as he cut his strikeout rate to 17.6 percent while posting a solid 9.8 percent walk rate. Vargas' 40.5 percent hard-hit rate and 9.3 percent barrel rate were decent, but a healthy 23.1 percent pull AIR rate suggests he has the type of swing to get the most out of merely solid raw power. He'll be eligible at both corner infield spots heading into his age-26 season and should have a spot in the middle of the White Sox' batting order locked up. Read Past Outlooks

Vargas ran out of chances with the Dodgers and was traded to the White Sox at the deadline. It was a big change from one end of the competitive spectrum to the other and he might have been in shock if his numbers following the move are any indication (.104/.217/.170 in 157 plate appearances). He's still just 25 years old, but Vargas has lost whatever shine he had as a prospect. At least he maintained his patience amidst his struggles and continued to walk roughly 10 percent of the time last season. The White Sox are evaluating for the future and figure to give Vargas, who's out of minor-league options, another look at third base to see if there might be anything there. Even on the South Side, the leash probably won't be very long.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Milwaukee could be interested
Vargas could be a trade target for the Brewers ahead of the deadline, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
Analysis
It's uncertain if the Brewers will be too aggressive in the trade market in the coming weeks, but if they push for a move, they're likely to search for an offensive upgrade on the left side of their infield, adding either a shortstop or a third baseman. Vargas could be an option because of his versatility, though he'd fit nicely at third base. Plus, he's only 25 years old and won't be arbitration-eligible until 2027.
