He's not a plus defender behind the plate but his versatility could see him called up from Triple-A at some point this summer. Gasper was a surprise starter at DH against a right-handed pitcher, but Twins manager Rocco Baldelli was likely just getting some bench players work early in the season. Gasper looked healthy after suffering a left ankle laceration that required six stitches last week. His start also shows the Twins have confidence in him after he posted a .289/.404/.395 slash line this spring.
