Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Caballero, despite spending his time with two organizations and not receiving consisent playing time, led the American League in steals for a second consecutive season. The last American Leaguer to do that was Whit Merrifield in 2017-2018, while the National League last saw that happen with Dee Strange-Gordon in 2014-2015. Caballero's main goal when he comes up to the plate is to get on base and do what he enjoys most, and he set a career-high with a 12.7 percent walk rate last season in his pursuit to defend his stolen base title. He was 49 of 60 in his attempts and has now attempted 60 steals in each of the past two seasons, successfully converting 78 percent of those attempts. The rest of his offensive game is lacking, as he makes poor contact overall and has a career batting average of .228 in more than 1,100 career plate appearances. The Yankees are likely to keep Caballero around for his versatility, as he did everything but catch and play first base in 2025. He is fantasy eligible at four positions, but this one-category flexibility requires a specific build to offset the lack of production from Caballero in four offensive categories. After all, despite 49 steals, Caballero scored just 52 runs. Read Past Outlooks
Homers, swipes bag Monday
Caballero went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional run, a double and a stolen base Monday in an 11-10 win over the Angels.
Analysis
Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham homered twice apiece for New York, and the light-hitting Caballero also got in on the fun with a two-run blast to left field in the second inning. The utility man has racked up two doubles and a long ball along with five RBI over his past three games, going 4-for-13 during that span. Caballero also swiped his sixth bag of the season Monday, and he's tied for seventh in MLB in that category.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Caballero comes into the 2025 season with eligibility at three infield positions as well as the American League stolen base crown. That is roughly where the good news of his 2024 season ends. Caballero also led the league in caught stealings (16), putting his stolen-base success rate below the league average. Caballero was allowed to run in this manner because Tampa Bay was not a serious contender and the club was desperate to generate offense as the club fell back into its previous offensive patterns after a surprising 2023 season. Caballero's defense will keep him in the lineup, but the remainder of his skills, or lack thereof, will keep him in the bottom of the lineup. Caballero already saw his playing time getting squeezed later in the season once Junior Caminero was promoted with Christopher Morel and Brandon Lowe taking time away at second base. Caballero would ideally be a utility player as the club's offensive issues were exacerbated with him and his statistically-flawed twin Jose Siri in the same lineup.

Analysis
The Rays are in the thick of the American League Wild Card race themselves, so they are unlikely to be outright sellers. However, a mix of buying and selling is certainly possible, and the versatile Caballero is a fit for just about any club. The 28-year-old super utility player is slashing .220/.314/.313 with 32 stolen bases this season and is under team control through 2029.
