Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
The 2025 season showcased the volatility in Bart's profile, as he went from having an apparent breakout 2024 season to very limited production just one year later. His ability to make hard contact remained (10.4 percent barrel and 43.2 percent hard hit rate), but both his strikeout rate and groundball rate reached career highs. The end result was a total collapse of power production, with his slugging percentage cratering from .462 to .340 and his ISO from .198 to .091. Bart managed to hit a decent .249, though he relied upon a .356 BABIP to do so. While not directly related to fantasy, Bart's defensive metrics also remained well below-average by any measure. That leaves him with an uncertain role entering the 2026 season, particularly as Pittsburgh's lineup improves around him. Even if Bart finds everyday playing time, his 2024 results stand out as a clear outlier and leave him with minimal fantasy appeal. Read Past Outlooks
Cleared for light activities
Bart (foot) has been cleared to resume weight room activity and play light catch, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis
Per Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk, Bart is still "weeks away" from returning from the 10-day injured list, but the good news is that the 29-year-old catcher has progressed enough to take the next step in his recovery program. The Pirates should have a better sense of Bart's timeline to return as he continues to increase his baseball activities.

Bart looked to be the latest example of the difficult transition from top catching prospect to reliable fantasy contributor, as he was designated for assignment by the Giants on March 31. However, he ironically resurrected his career at the expense of Henry Davis after being acquired Pittsburgh and served as the primary backstop for long stretches of the campaign. He earned those plate appearances by showcasing his power, highlighted by a 9.4 percent barrel rate and 111.5 mph max exit velocity. While not as flashy, equally important was Bart's improved infield flyball rate (6.5 percent compared to career 13.0 percent rate) and strikeout rate (25.9 percent compared to career 32 percent). GM Ben Cherington indicated Bart will enter spring training as the favorite for the No. 1 catching job, but the Pirates are likely not ready to give up on the aforementioned Davis and will welcome back a healthy Endy Rodriguez (elbow). Regular at-bats at DH are possible if Andrew McCutchen isn't back or takes on a lesser role. If Bart finds his way into regular playing time, he has the chance to be a poor man's Cal Raleigh or Shea Langeliers, but the way this offseason progresses will provide more answers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Should be tendered
Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette expects the Pirates to tender Bart a contract for 2026.
Analysis
The 28-year-old is a candidate to be non-tendered ahead of Friday's roster deadline after posting a .695 OPS last season, but Beazley expects Pittsburgh to retain him since the club's other catching options are more unproven. Bart had 13 homers with a .799 OPS over 80 games in 2024 and seems unlikely to replicate that production next season, but he would provide the Pirates with veteran stability behind the plate.
