Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Cortes, after amassing nearly 1200 Triple-A plate appearnces and just over 2600 minor league plate appearances, finally reached the majors in 2025. The outfielder climbed his way out of a high profile program at the University of South Carolina through the Mets system before being released after the 2024 season. The Athletics added him on a minor league deal last winter and watched him hit .322/.414/.603 with their Triple-A club and gave him 42 games with the big league club. Cortes made the most of that time and is certainly in the mix for an admittedly crowded outfield depth chart on the roster. However, it was the first time he really has shown the ability to hit for average and it coincided nicely with him playing in the Pacific Coast League as well as Las Vegas. He will likely ride the Vegas to Sacramento regional flight a few times this season unless he shows in camp that he has tapped into some unrealized potential with his swing. Read Past Outlooks
Pops homer in win
Cortes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Brewers.
Analysis
Cortes clubbed his first homer since May 24 to pull the Athletics within a run in the seventh inning. The outfielder has been seeing steady time in right field against right-handed pitchers, primarily working in a platoon with Colby Thomas while bumping Lawrence Butler into a reserve role. However, Cortes has gone just 4-for-21 (.190) in June after batting .265 in May to maintain a foothold in the lineup. Overall, Cortes is hitting .310 with an .890 OPS, six homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored and a stolen base across 182 plate appearances, but his consistency has faded a bit. That may not cost him playing time if Brent Rooker (knee) ends up on the injured list, but it could open the door for Butler to get more looks.
