Earns second win of 2026
PCincinnati Reds
April 17, 2026
Williamson (2-1) earned the win against the Twins on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out two across 5.1 innings.
Analysis
Williamson's four free passes are a bit of a concern, and he generated just six whiffs while tossing 50 strikes on 93 pitches (53.8 percent). However, he kept the Twins to just one run, courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Austin Martin. After yielding six earned runs in his first start of the season against the Pirates on March 31, Williamson has given up just four runs over his last 16 innings, though he's also walked 11 batters in that span. He is lined up to face the Rays on the road next week.

For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Williamson looked worn out down the stretch in 2023, which was probably predictable given that it was his first big-league season. An early-September stint on the COVID IL may have also been a critical tipping point. Prior to the diagnosis, the 25-year-old left-hander held a 4.20 ERA and 87 strikeouts through 98.2 innings and was sitting 94-95 mph with his fastball. Following his return to the Reds' active roster, he gave up 12 earned runs and an .858 opponents' OPS across his final four starts covering 18.2 innings, with his fastball velocity dropping into the 91-92 mph range. Williamson will have to compete for an Opening Day rotation spot this spring and aim to rediscover the form that saw him register a 3.15 ERA and 58:16 K:BB in 60 innings (11 starts) between July and August last year. He should be on watch lists either way.
Williamson was one of the key pieces acquired by the Reds from the Mariners in the Jesse Winker/Eugenio Suarez trade. The former second-round pick was coming off a dominant 2021 season in the minors which concluded at the Double-A level, setting himself up to be part of the Reds' 2022 rotation at some point. It didn't happen, though, as the left-hander showed regression across the board both in terms of numbers and stuff. His lack of control was particularly alarming, as he went from an 8.1 percent walk rate in 2021 to a 13.9 percent walk rate in 2022. Williamson was added to the 40-man roster over the offseason, and there should be starts available to him for the Reds if he can bounce back. Fantasy managers should take more of a wait-and-see approach, though.
While Williamson's fastball may not seem elite from a velocity standpoint (93 mph average, touches 97), it is a perfect pitch in every other sense. He is a 6-foot-6 lefty, so the pitch plays up just via extension and handedness, but it's the induced vertical break that makes the pitch such a monster. His fastball got whiffs at a 37% clip and was thrown for strikes at a 69% clip, rates that are up there with the best pitchers in the minors. Williamson also boasts one of the best curveballs in the minors, although that pitch is thrown in the mid-70s, so it lacks the velocity of the breaking balls that typically play as 70-grade pitches in the majors. His changeup and slider are average offerings. Williamson logged a 37.4 K% and an 8.1 BB% in 98.1 innings across High-A and Double-A. He has passed Emerson Hancock in the pecking order, and is right there with George Kirby and Matt Brash as one of Seattle's future rotation anchors. Williamson is not on the 40-man roster, but he could still make a handful of starts in the majors later this summer.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Will be added to 40-man
PCincinnati Reds
November 13, 2022
Williamson will join Cincinnati's 40-man roster by Tuesday, reports Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Analysis
Williamson spent time at both Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville in 2022, posting a 4.11 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 1.60 K/BB in 122.2 combined innings. It was a dramatic dip in production from his 2021 production when he was a member of the Mariners' organization. Moving him to the 40-man roster will protect him from being selected in December's Rule 5 Draft.
