Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Martinez took advantage of some injuries on the roster to find his way on the field a lot more frequently than he should have in 2025. Martinez is an impatient hitter who can be overmatched by good pitching, but the switch hitter compiled 118 games in the outfield and another 37 at second base making him dual-eligible in AL-Only leagues this winter. That is where the upside ends because he has not yet demonstrated a singular skill which would endear him to fantasy managers. He has average speed and below average power and should be hitting 9th any time he is in a lineup until he finishes filling out physically. In reality, Martinez is holding a roster spot until Travis Bazzana is ready for the big league roster. Martinez was, at one point, a top ten prospect in the Cleveland organization, but the current reality is far from those previous projections. Read Past Outlooks
Heading to injured list
Martinez (foot) will be placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, reports Cade Cracas of Sports Illustrated.
Analysis
After suffering a left foot bruise, which is now deemed to be a fracture, Saturday and sitting out Sunday's matinee, Martinez will be placed on the 10-day IL. Prior to his injury, Martinez batted .239/.276/.442 with 11 homers and 33 RBI this season. Petey Halpin was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to take Martinez's spot on the active roster.

2021
Martinez began the 2024 season on the 60-day IL, nursing a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. When healthy, he was assigned to Triple-A Columbus. Looking to spark their offense, the Guardians called up Martinez in early July. He played regularly for a month, posting a .670 OPS, but was sent back to the minors with Lane Thomas and Jhonkensy Noel joining Steven Kwan in the outfield. Martinez is still young, entering his 23-year-old season. He's never been a top prospect, with his chief asset being contact. He doesn't hit the ball with authority and lacks the speed to compensate. His .274/.356/.456 line in 55 games with the Clippers warrants a look in the spring, but Martinez is ticketed to be a versatile reserve, capable of bouncing between the infield and outfield, which seems to be a theme on the Guardians' roster.
