Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gimenez continued his fine work in the field but, unfortunately, also continued his regression at the plate. Gimenez saw his plate appearances drastically reduced with Toronto compared to the levels he enjoyed with Cleveland, and with good reason, because Gimenez was a detriment to the lineup with the bat. His metrics are living in the bottom 25th percentile these days, but as long as a team is comfortable with him hitting ninth and doing his thing in the field and on the bases, it's fine. Gimenez is truly limited to mono league benches at this point because of his positional versatility in-season and his ability to steal some bases. Gimenez's batting average should improve this season because a .239 BABiP is tough to do in consecutive seasons, and a lot of that came from the 55-point gap between his actual batting average on fastballs (.189) versus his expected average (.244) on those pitches. Batting average variance is the name of the game for players with lesser power who make a lot of contact like Gimenez. Read Past Outlooks
Idle against left-hander
Gimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis
With southpaw Shane McClanahan on the bump for the Rays in the series finale, the Blue Jays will counter with a more right-handed-heavy lineup. Gimenez and fellow left-handed batters Jesus Sanchez and Daulton Varsho will head to the bench, opening up spots for righties Lenyn Sosa, Myles Straw and Davis Schneider.

Gimenez has developed into one of the game's best defenders at any position. Unfortunately, he regressed at the plate in 2024 for the second straight season, managing a lousy .638 OPS and wRC+ of 83 while popping only nine home runs. He also ranked in the bottom 10 percent in baseball both in hard-hit rate (28.5 percent) and walk rate (4.1 percent) for the second year in a row. Gimenez was not a lost cause in fantasy, however, thanks to 30 stolen bases and a 15.3 percent strikeout rate which allowed him to keep his head above water in the average department. The left-handed hitting Gimenez was dreadful versus southpaws in 2024 (.574 OPS) and looks like more of a bottom-third of the lineup hitter, but his defense ensures his spot in the everyday lineup. For fantasy, think of him as a stolen-base specialist and consider anything else he might provide to be a bonus.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Shortlisted for Gold Glove
Gimenez is one of three second basemen nominated to win the 2025 Gold Glove Award in the American League, according to MLB.com.
Analysis
The other two finalists at second base are Luis Rengifo and Marcus Semien. Gimenez has been turning heads with his play in the postseason, but he's been a defensive wizard for the Blue Jays all year with plus-9 DRS and plus-10 OAA. He wasn't known for his offense in the regular season, though, as he hit .210 with a .598 OPS across 101 regular-season contests.
