2025 Fantasy Outlook
After leading the league in the saves in 2022 and 2023, Clase fell just short of a three-peat. Still, his 47 saves led the American League and he was third among closers with an 88.7 percent team save share. Clase also became the Guardians' franchise leader in saves while breaking the team's single-season record for the category. The right-hander struggled during the 2024 playoffs, permitting three home runs and eight earned runs across eight postseason innings, but he was lights out in the regular season. Clase led the league with a 0.61 ERA and 0.66 WHIP over a career-high 74.1 innings, while ranking fourth among relievers with a 3.7 percent walk rate and .151 batting average against. He threw his devastating cutter a career-high 77.8 percent of the time at the highest velocity for that pitch type (99.5 mph on average), all while inducing weak contact and plenty of ground balls (57.4 percent). Clase is locked in as a top-3 closer for 2025 drafts. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Clase came into the ninth inning Wednesday for his first save opportunity since Opening Day against the Royals, but he put himself in hot water by loading the bases after yielding two singles and a walk. It took six outings for Clase to earn his first save of 2025 after registering 47 saves in 2024, which led the American League and ranked second in the majors behind Ryan Helsley (49).

Clase led the league in saves for the second straight year, tallying a career-high 44 of the Guardians' 47 total saves, while earning his second consecutive All-Star nomination. His 93.6% team save share led the league once again, as former Guardians manager Terry Francona was very straightforward with his bullpen hierarchy. However, Clase regressed in many categories, all of which new manager Stephen Vogt may consider when determining bullpen roles for 2024. Clase posted career-worst marks with 9 losses and 12 blown saves, the latter leading all relievers. He also posted the worst ratios of his young career, and while his 3.22 ERA and 1.16 WHIP were fine for typical reliever standards, they were not Clase-like. Hitters simply made more contact against him, which inflated his BABIP and saw his strikeout rate plummet to a career-worst 21.2%. Despite these blips, Clase should remain the Guardians closer for 2024 and is likely to be among the top 5 closers taken in drafts.
