Gerenabarrena will bring his loan at Castellon to a close on June 30 and return to Athletic Club after a productive season in Segunda Division. The 23-year-old central midfielder was one of Castellon's most used players throughout the 2025-26 campaign, starting 31 of his 39 league appearances and accumulating 2,795 minutes, contributing two goals and two assists along the way. He returns to Lezama under contract until June 2027, and Athletic Club plan to include him in preseason with the first team as he bids to earn a place in the squad. However, the competition for midfield places could push the club toward arranging another loan if they feel that serves his development better.
