Rego has signed a contract extension with Athletic Club until June 2030, the club announced.
ANALYSIS
Rego made 41 appearances in his breakthrough debut season, including all eight Champions League fixtures, making him the only outfield player to feature in every match of the competition. Rego, who progressed through Lezama after joining at U15 level, made his first-team debut in the opening match of the 2025/26 season against Sevilla and scored his first senior goal in a vital victory over Mallorca. Football director Mikel Gonzalez praised his confirmation of the potential he showed at youth level, describing him as a defensive midfielder with qualities that are difficult to find, as the club commits to one of its most promising academy products.
