First stoppage loss of career
Ige lost to Melquizael Costa via TKO (strikes) at 4:56 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Somehow, it's the first stoppage loss of Ige's professional career. It's an insane statistic when you think how many wars the guy has been in over the years. Dan began the evening by trying to grapple. He landed a takedown almost immediately, but Costa quickly got back to his feet and was in firm control the entire rest of the way. Perhaps you could argue that referee Jacob Montalvo -- who had a rough night -- could have let Ige last until the bell, but he got blasted with a spinning kick to the face and wasn't really intelligently defending himself afterwards. Now 34 years old, Ige has lost four of five dating back to June 2024. The UFC needs to be careful regarding the level of competition they match him up against moving forward if they plan on running him back out there.

Fighting Costa in Houston
Ige will fight Melquizael Costa at UFC Houston on Feb. 21, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ige dropped his most recent fight to Patricio Pitbull in July, marking the former's third loss across his last four fights. With Costa riding a five-fight winning streak entering the event, momentum will certainly not be in Ige's favor in February.

Inconsistent ways continue
Ige lost to Patricio Freire via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 318 on Saturday in New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
This felt like a fight Ige absolutely had to have as a -175 favorite against a guy that struggled mightily in his UFC debut, and Ige didn't get the win he came for. Ige allowed two takedowns in the opening round and five in total on nine attempts. He only gave up 2:44 worth of control time and absorbed little damage on the mat, but the Pitbull takedowns served to book end what was generally a close fight on the fight. Ige got rocked in Round 2 before landing one huge blow on Pitbull in Round 3. He simply didn't generate enough offense over the course of the first 10 minutes to win a decision. Ige deserves major props for his willingness to fight any opponent at any time, but he's still sporting a 2-4 record in his last half-dozen bouts dating back to September 2023, leaving him lightyears from title contention.

Next fight booked
Ige will face off against Patricio Pitbull at UFC 318 on July 19, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ige, who most recently took down Sean Woodson at UFC 314, will look to stay on the winning path against Patricio Freire this July. The 33-year-old American fighter is 11-8 during his time with the UFC.

Snaps brief losing streak
Ige defeated Sean Woodson via TKO (punches) at 1:12 of Round 3 at UFC 314 on Saturday in Miami.
ANALYSIS
Desperate to snap a two-fight losing streak, Ige came through in a big spot. All the talk is going to be about the awful early stoppage from referee Andrew Glenn, but it turns out Ige -- probably incorrectly -- was up two rounds on all three scorecards entering the final frame and would have won a decision as long as he managed to see the final bell. Ige definitely landed the bigger blows, while the volume appeared to be in Woodson's favor. It ended up not making a difference because of one big Ige right hand that set forth the sequence of events which ended the fight. Ige has a long history of coming up short against the best the featherweight division has to offer, but he's high-end roster depth for a company which holds an event most every Saturday.

Draws Woodson in Miami
Ige will take on Sean Woodson in a featherweight matchup at UFC 314 on April 12 in Miami, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Ige may have lost three of his last four, but the difference between his and Woodson's caliber of opponents is night and day, as Ige will be one of Woodson's toughest challenges to date. That said, it's tough to argue with Woodson's four-fight winning streak, as well as his high striking volume. A spot in the 145-pound rankings appears to be on the line here, with Ige currently hanging on by a thread at No. 15.
