Smith has been one of the regular DP World Tour players for the last handful of years, and now he will get his chance to take up full PGA Tour membership. Smith put together a season in which he had six top-10s and 13 top-25s. He also made the cut in both of his major starts. Smith ranked 20th in SG: Tee-to-Green and eighth in GIR percentage on the DP World Tour. The ball striking has always been there for the 33-year-old, but the putting can be very streaky. Smith closed with a one-under 69 on Sunday at the Texas Children's Houston Open to finish five-under and tied for 44th.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a solo-third at the Valspar Championship, Smith broke par in all four rounds last week at Memorial Park, where he ultimately ranked 12th among the TCHO field in SG: Ballstriking and 16th in overall proximity. However, he also lost a collective 3.46 strokes on and around the greens in Houston. Smith will tee it up again this week at TPC San Antonio for his Valero Texas Open debut.
