Holding in
Vea did not practice this week as a minicamp hold-in, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Vea is entering the last year of his contract, during which he is scheduled to receive up to $17 million in non-guaranteed funds for play throughout the 2026 season. The defensive tackle played a full season's worth of games for the first time since 2019, and with consistent production leading the defensive line, he likely feels he is entitled to an extension before putting his body on the line another year. If Vea continues to hold in without a trade or extension, Elijah Simmons could develop an increased role in the Buccaneers defense heading into the 2026 regular season.

Measurables Review
How do Vita Vea's measurables compare to other defensive tackles?
This section compares his draft workout metrics with players at the same position. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and it would be considered average.

Vea is coming off another highly productive season in 2024, recording a career-high 7.0 sacks as part of his 42-tackle tally and adding a pass defense over 16 regular-season games. As those numbers indicate, the elite run-stuffer once again admirably filled his role as a formidable force against both the run and pass in the middle of Tampa Bay's defensive line. Still just 30 years old, Vea should continue to offer solid IDP production while likely clearing 500 defensive snaps for a fifth straight year.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Seeking new deal
Vea did not participate at minicamp on Tuesday and is likely seeking a new contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Vea is entering the final season of a four-year contract worth $71 million. Like most positions around the league, elite defensive tackles have seen their contract values skyrocket in recent seasons, with Chris Jones surpassing an average annual value of $30 million and a handful of other players surpassing $25 million. Vea will be playing in his age-31 season in 2026, so he may not get the long-term deal he is hoping for. A holdout is a possibility if the Buccaneers and Vea don't reach an extension by the start of training camp.
