2026 Projections
Returning to Las Vegas
The Raiders are re-signing Koonce to a one-year, $11 million contract, Levi Damien of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Koonce re-ups with Las Vegas after having played out the 2025 campaign on a one-year deal with the team. He suited up for all 17 regular-season games last year, notching 30 total tackles (14 solo), including 4.5 sacks, plus one forced fumble. In the wake of Maxx Crosby being traded to the Ravens, the Raiders' defensive scheme may rely on Koonce in an increased role in 2026.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2021
The Raiders will boast one of the best defensive lines in the league with a combination of Maxx Crosby, Christian Wilkins and Koonce. Koonce is the least well-known of the group and will benefit from the elite players around him, but he flashed a lot of upside of his own after Antonio Pierce took over as head coach in Las Vegas and seemingly identified him as a player that needed to see more of the field. Through the first eight games of the season, Koonce played between 30 and 40 percent of defensive snaps. After Pierce took over, that mark immediately jumped to at least 40 percent and ultimately settled in around a 60 percent clip. All told, in the nine games after Pierce took over as coach, Koonce tallied eight sacks and 29 total tackles, leaving little reason for the team to bench him. He's earned a significant role along the defensive line and is a prime breakout candidate heading into 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Represents quandary for Raiders
The decision on whether to re-sign Koonce, a pending free agent, is a challenging one for the Raiders this offseason, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com opines.
ANALYSIS
McFadden notes that Koonce is somewhat of an enigma, given the events of the last two seasons. The 2021 third-round pick seemed to have broken through two seasons ago after a very slow start to his career, totaling 43 total tackles, including 8.0 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 17 regular-season games. However, Koonce was robbed of the opportunity to build on those numbers when he suffered a torn ACL just three days before Week 1 of the 2024 campaign, and neither new head coach Pete Carroll nor general manager John Spytek have any ties to him.
