Dean (shoulder) agreed to a three-year, $36.75 million contract with the Steelers on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean has recovered from a shoulder injury that sidelined him down the stretch in 2025, so he shouldn't have trouble passing a physical to make his contract with Pittsburgh official when the new league year begins Wednesday. Prior to getting hurt, the 29-year-old cornerback set a new career high with three interceptions in 14 games during the 2025 season. He has 61 passes defensed in 96 regular-season games (77 starts), all with the Buccaneers.

Dean finished his sixth NFL season sidelined by a knee injury, but he was back in action during the Buccaneers' OTAs and projects to reprise his starting cornerback role in 2025. The veteran cover man recorded his first interception since 2022 last season as one of his seven pass defenses, and he added a forced fumble alongside 59 tackles in 12 regular-season games. Dean also conceded just one touchdown across the 53 pass attempts he faced in primary coverage, tying for the second-lowest figure of his career.
Dean had what could be described as a middling campaign in 2023, producing 61 tackles but also allowing a career-high 119.4 quarterback rating, 61.2 percent completion rate and 9.4 yards per attempt, along with four touchdowns. The 2019 third-round pick also failed to record an interception for the first time in his five pro seasons, supporting the argument that Dean regressed to an extent last season. Whether that's an outlier should reveal itself fairly quickly, as Dean's experience will be counted on even more this year with Carlton Davis now in Detroit.
Dean was an integral part of a Buccaneers defense that finished with the ninth-fewest passing yards per game allowed in 2022 (208.8). He recorded the second-most tackles of his career (57), equaled his career best with two interceptions and gave up just a 45.0 completion percentage in primary coverage. Dean also has at least eight pass breakups in three of his first four seasons, and the 53.5 QBR he surrendered a season ago was the second lowest of his career. With 57 games of experience and a reputation for durability, Dean could make for a solid IDP option in 2023.
Dean played a career-high 15 games in 2021 and continued to serve as a dependable and versatile member of the Buccaneers secondary. The Auburn product tallied 53 tackles, two interceptions, an additional seven passes defensed and allowed just a 42.9 completion percentage in primary coverage. Dean closed out the campaign by totaling 15 tackles with a pass defense and a forced fumble in Tampa Bay's two postseason games and once again projects to start at left cornerback opposite Carlton Davis, who re-signed on a three-year deal this offseason.
Dean nearly doubled his defensive snap count as a second-year pro in 2020, which led to 62 tackles, a pick-six and seven total pass defenses. He did give up five passing touchdowns on 61 attempts in primary coverage and saw the completion percentage against him rise from 38.8 as a rookie to 54.1 last year. However, Dean closed out the Buccaneers' championship run in strong fashion, as he posted 16 tackles and three pass defenses in four playoff games. He may push Sean Murphy-Bunting for a starting role at cornerback, but even if he's a rotational player, Dean is capable of piling up IDP-worthy numbers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Potentially overvalued FA target
CBTampa Bay Buccaneers
February 20, 2026
Dean could prove to be somewhat overvalued in this year's free-agent class, Kevin Patra of NFL.com opines.
ANALYSIS
While Dean did record a career-high three interceptions and added a pair of forced fumbles along with his first career sack in 2025, Patra makes a case that a confluence of factors could lead to a team ultimately overpaying for his services. The analyst points out Dean will be considered the top player at his position on the open market -- which automatically sets the stage for a likely lucrative deal -- and goes on to note the cornerback position's high variance along with Dean's injury history and age could also lead to him struggling to live up to a robust contract over time.
