Phillips is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so his full focus will be logging an impressive contract season after having been limited to just four appearances in 2024 due to an ACL tear. The 2021 first-rounder has only suited up for 12 combined games over the last two years, making it pivotal he proves an ability to stay healthy in 2025. After a quick offseason rehab, Phillips will have an opportunity to produce in what should be a much-improved Dolphins pass rush, with Bradley Chubb returning and Chop Robinson entering Year 2. Phillips was unable to practice all week due to an ankle injury he sustained in last Sunday's win over the Bills. Jihaad Campbell will likely start Sunday's divisional matchup at weakside linebacker in Phillips' absence. With inside linebacker Nakobe Dean (hamstring) also ruled out, the Eagles are set to give Jalyx Hunt, Joshua Uche and/or Brandon Graham more defensive snaps with the linebacker corps in Week 18.

Phillips, a 2021 first-round pick, was putting together a career year before tearing his ACL in Week 12 of the 2023 campaign. The Dolphins have picked up the fifth-year option of Phillips' rookie deal, keeping him under contract for two more seasons, but it would be reasonable to anticipate him getting off to a slow start in 2024. That could be true for much of Miami's defensive front, with Bradley Chubb also working his way back from an ACL tear, but once both are back to full health, they should be able to bring some serious pressure up front against opposing offenses.

Phillips will reunite with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio after being traded from the Dolphins to the Eagles on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The 26-year-old edge rusher hasn't been as effective since recovering from the injury, but joining another Fangio defense might provide his production with a jolt before he heads into free agency. Through nine games with the Dolphins in 2025, Phillips has just 3.0 sacks among his 25 tackles.
