2025 Fantasy Outlook
Indianapolis made Ward one of the NFL's highest-paid cornerbacks via a three-year, $60 million contract this offseason in attempt to finally shore up a secondary that's ranked among the team's weaknesses in recent seasons. Hamstring and knee injuries, as well as personal issues, forced him to miss five games in 2024, but he played all 17 games with the 49ers in both 2023 and 2022, while ranking as one of the league's top outside corners. He'll form a formidable starting tandem on the outside across from Jaylon Jones. Read Past Outlooks

Ward (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Ward will miss the remainder of the regular season, but he will be eligible to return for the playoffs, should the Colts make it. He would need to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol to resume playing at that point. Ward finishes the 2025 regular season with 25 tackles (17 solo) and seven passes defensed in seven appearances.

Ward turned in his best season in 2023 both as a pro and since joining the 49ers as a free agent one year prior. The 27-year-old recorded 72 tackles while posting a career-best five interceptions across 17 starts. Ward underwent offseason core muscle surgery, but all indications are that the team's top corner will be ready for training camp. The final year of Ward's three-year contract with San Francisco will be 2025.
Ward had a successful first season in red and gold, posting a career-high 87 tackles while forcing two turnovers over 17 healthy games in 2022. He was constantly lining up against the opposition's top threat, most notably holding Seahawks' star wideout DK Metcalf to 90 yards and no touchdowns in two regular-season meetings. Expect the 27-year-old Ward to continue serving as the 49ers' No. 1 corner this year.
The prized jewel of a quiet offseason in San Francisco, Ward brings a balanced skill set to a secondary that lacked durability or depth in 2021. He missed a career-high four games last season for the Chiefs, but he appears primed to line up opposite Emmanuel Moseley or Jason Verrett with the 49ers. From a fantasy perspective, Ward doesn't stand out in any particular stat category as a cornerback.
Ward topped the Chiefs' cornerbacks in snap count last season, going over 900 for the season while posting 49 tackles (36 solo), one sack and six passes defensed over 13 games. The Chiefs placed a second-round restricted tender on him this offseason to retain his rights for the 2021 campaign.
Ward emerged as a vital part of the Chiefs' defense in 2019, logging more than 1,000 defensive snaps while racking up 74 tackles (56 solo) to go along with two interceptions and a forced fumble. He's set to retain his starting role for Kansas City as one of the team's outside corners, though it remains to be seen who will be across from him with Breshaud Breeland's status in flux.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May want to play closer to home
CBSan Francisco 49ers
February 10, 2025
Ward could prioritize being closer to his girlfriend and their newborn son in Texas when choosing a landing spot in free agency, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The couple endured an unimaginable tragedy in October when they lost their one-year-old daughter, so Ward's desire to be near his family is entirely understandable. The 28-year-old cornerback is likely to draw plenty of interest in free agency, but it's not clear if either the Texans or Cowboys have Ward on their radar.
