Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Edman spent much of the 2025 campaign dealing with an ankle injury, limiting him to 97 regular-season games. The versatile veteran has now missed over 175 contests due to injury over the past two seasons combined, which has sapped much of his fantasy relevance. When he was healthy last year, Edman struggled to a career-low .656 OPS, though he did tie his career-high mark with 13 long balls. Edman may have been the victim of some bad luck, as his .274 xBA was much higher than his actual .225 mark, and a squared-up rate in the 88th percentile suggests he frequently made the most of his swings. Still, with a hard-hit rate in the 34th percentile and an average exit velocity in the 24th percentile, Edman is unlikely to ever be a major source of power, so it's very concerning for his fantasy value that he managed just three stolen bases last year. Edman underwent offseason ankle surgery, and the hope should be that the procedure helps him both stay off the injured list and take flight on the basepaths more often. Depending on the Dodgers' offseason moves, Edman could open the season as the starter at second base or in center field. Read Past Outlooks
Hitless in return
Edman went 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's 5-4 win against Tampa Bay.
Analysis
Edman made his season debut following a long absence while recovering from last November's ankle surgery. He was unable to get a hit in first game back, though the super-utility man did draw a fourth-inning walk. Edman batted leadoff and played third base Wednesday, but neither of those situations are likely to stick. Shohei Ohtani got the day off as a hitter and is likely to return to the top of the batting order for Los Angeles' next game, and Max Muncy -- who pinch hit for Edman in the seventh frame Wednesday -- is the Dodgers' primary third baseman. Edman should still see ample playing time, with much of it coming at second base and in the outfield.

Edman's recovery from offseason wrist surgery dragged on much longer than anticipated, as he didn't make his season debut until late August. The super utility player was a Dodger by that time, having been flipped there from the Cardinals at the trade deadline in a three-team deal with the White Sox. Edman clubbed a surprising six home runs in September before starring for the Dodgers in the postseason. The switch-hitting Edman has long been better from the right side of the plate, and he took that to the extreme during a small sample with the Dodgers in collecting a 1.299 OPS against lefties and .523 OPS versus righties. He's going to be an everyday guy in 2025 and is expected to see significant action in center field, however, but he offers plus defense at whatever position the team decides to use him. Edman did finish shy of 20 games played at shortstop and second base, so his positional eligibility could be limited.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Longtime interest from Los Angeles
The Dodgers coveted Edman for three years prior to acquiring him from the Cardinals in July, reports Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com.
Analysis
The 29-year-old didn't play a game with St. Louis this year prior to being traded due to wrist and ankle injuries, but that didn't prevent Los Angeles from pursuing him. Edman was a productive piece of the lineup down the stretch with six homers, six steals and a .711 OPS in 37 games to close out the regular season. He's also been a clutch performer in the playoffs and is hitting .365 with seven extra-base hits, 13 RBI and 19 runs in 13 contests.
