2026 Fantasy Outlook
Saggese was known as a bat-first prospect, but that bat has yet to show up at the major-league level. The 23-year-old got his first extended run of playing time in 2025, and while he hit a respectable .258, it came with only two home runs over 295 plate appearances. It was the hard stuff that gave Saggese trouble, as he hit only .205 with a .252 slugging percentage against fastballs. Saggese did have an above-average hard-hit rate (44.1 percent) and average exit velocity (90.2 mph), but he struck out at a 28.1 percent clip and his wOBA (.282) was right in line with his xwOBA (.284). Capable of handling second base, third base and shortstop, Saggese could get another long look in 2026 on the rebuilding Cardinals. While he hasn't shown much in the majors to this point, it's too soon to give up on a guy who was a .288/.358/.485 hitter in the minors. Read Past Outlooks
Optioned to Triple-A
The Cardinals optioned Saggese to Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
Analysis
Saggese boasts a 1.078 OPS over his last nine games, but he hasn't played much and would've been due for a further downturn in reps as the Cardinals roster gets healthier. He'll play regularly at Memphis while bouncing around to multiple positions.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Saggese is a bit of a throwback in that he hits without batting gloves and has a super aggressive approach at the plate. It took him a while to adjust during his first extended run at Triple-A Memphis last season, but those adjustments were eventually made as he slashed .291/.351/.524 with 12 home runs over a 55-game stretch before netting a late-season cup of coffee in the majors. Ultimately, he finished with 20 homers but just a 93 wRC+ at Memphis, although he was young for the level at 22. Saggese struggled during his brief stint in St. Louis and, since he'll turn just 23 in April and the Cardinals have depth at his infield positions, it's likely he's headed back to Memphis to start 2025.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Playing time prioritized
The Cardinals elected to keep Saggese at Triple-A Memphis for the time being in order to prioritize playing every day, reports John Denton of MLB.com.
Analysis
Nolan Gorman has served as St. Louis' primary second baseman this season, but he was demoted Aug. 21. It seemed like a prime opportunity for Saggese to be promoted since he's the organization's top infield prospect in the upper minors, but the Cardinals have instead turned to Brendan Donovan at the keystone. Saggese has an .867 OPS with 10 homers in 44 games at Triple-A since the start of July and could still make his MLB debut before the end of the campaign, but for now he'll remain with Memphis.
