2026 Fantasy Outlook
Cameron didn't have to wait long into the 2025 season to make his MLB debut, as he was called up from Triple-A in late April for a spot start. He returned to the minors after firing 6.1 scoreless frames but rejoined the Royals in mid-May and finished fourth on the team with 24 starts. A 2.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 114:43 K:BB across 138.1 innings netted him a fourth-place finish in voting for AL Rookie of the Year. The left-hander finished in the 73rd and 81st percentiles in hard-hit rate (37.4 percent) and barrel rate (6.3 percent), respectively, but a 4.08 xERA and 4.18 xFIP indicate he may have been a bit fortunate with his results. Cameron is a strong bet to open 2026 in Kansas City's starting rotation and has significant upside, but some sophomore regression wouldn't be too surprising given the underlying numbers. Confirmed for start Sunday
Manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Cameron (back) will start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Cameron was scratched from his last scheduled start Tuesday against Cleveland due to back tightness. After throwing a bullpen session Thursday without any problems, he'll officially avoid a stint on the injured list and return to face a Detroit lineup that's posted just a .669 OPS over its last 10 games.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Older lefties with mediocre fastball velocity and plus changeups typically put up misleadingly strong numbers against lower-level hitters before getting exposed in the upper levels, but Cameron was able surprise scouts by carving up Double-A and Triple-A hitters in 2024 en route to setting up a 2025 big-league debut. The 25-year-old southpaw's pro debut was delayed until 2022 as he recovered from Tommy John surgery as a junior at Central Arkansas, and the only time Cameron has struggled against pro hitters was in his first taste of Double-A in 2023. His 7.8 percent walk rate in a return to Double-A was strong, but his 5.1 percent walk rate at Triple-A was the 10th best mark among all pitchers with 50-plus innings at Triple-A, and the only real starting pitching prospect to top him was Marlins righty Adam Mazur (4.9 BB%). Cameron doesn't just rely on his plus changeup, as he also mixes in a quality curveball and a useful fourth-pitch cutter. His 92-mph fastball has good life, which allows it to play up in the zone, and he touched 96 mph with the pitch for the first time last year. If he's commanding the ball like he did at Triple-A, he has enough in his repertoire to succeed as a big-league starter. The 6-foot-3 Cameron threw a career-high 128.2 innings last year and could get a look in the Royals rotation early in the year if he picks up where he left off in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Royals fielding offers?
The Royals are receiving trade proposals centered around Cameron this offseason, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Analysis
The Royals are listening to offers for several pitchers, and Cameron could be one of the arms that gets dealt before the start of the 2026 season. Cameron is a 26-year-old southpaw who finished fourth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting in 2025, so the Royals aren't inclined to trade him. However, they might consider that scenario if the move lands the team a clear upgrade for the rotation.
