2026 Fantasy Outlook
Nunez narrowly missed the Opening Day roster despite a solid spring, instead beginning the year at Triple-A Rochester before an April call-up to cover for an injured CJ Abrams. He received regular playing time early, then shifted to a bench role once Abrams returned and was sent back to the minors in early June. His first stint was light on offense, though he contributed seven steals in limited action. Recalled again in late August, Nunez initially played sparingly before starting regularly over the season's final weeks. The results were far better, as he posted a .282/.326/.590 line with four homers and two steals across 16 games. That late push, combined with his defensive versatility across the middle infield and center field, gives him a chance to stick as a utility option. Power is not a major part of his game, but his speed could carry value with consistent opportunities. Read Past Outlooks
Swipes first bag of season
Nunez went 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's 10-4 win over the Cubs.
Analysis
Getting the start at second base and batting seventh, Nunez made an immediate impact with his speed when he drew a one-out walk and stole second in the sixth inning before scoring on a Ben Brown wild pitch. Nunez came into the season with 17 steals in 20 attempts over 90 big-league games in a utility role, giving him significant stolen-base upside if he hits enough to hang onto a starting spot at the keystone for the Nationals.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Nunez made the Nationals' roster as a Rule 5 pick but played sparingly because he was both terribly inexperienced and could only play the positions manned by the two best players (Abrams and Garcia Jr.) on the team last season. The Nationals wanted to hold on to Nunez after watching him steal 122 bases in the Marlins system over the previous two seasons and can now send Nunez to Triple-A in 2025 to continue his development with regular playing time. Nunez, despite his inexperience at the upper levels, had an impressive 15.4 percent walk rate in his 78 plate appearances, continuing a skill he showcased throughout his time in the Florida system. It will be interesting to see how well Nunez does in Triple-A this season when he resumes his on-base skills and showcases his speed with regular playing time, because he can absolutely fly. Perhaps a move to center field might be in the future, as neither Abrams nor Garcia Jr. appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.
