2026 Fantasy Outlook
Lorenzen made a career-high 26 starts last season, though his workload was capped by a career-worst 1.59 HR/9 that often forced early exits, keeping him to 141.2 innings. That total still stood as his second-highest at the major league level. The increased home run damage came despite positive trends elsewhere, as he posted his strongest strikeout rate since 2020 and matched his best walk rate. A fly ball profile has generally played well in Kauffman Stadium, but last year proved an exception. Lorenzen's 14 percent HR/FB rate ranked among the league's worst for qualified starters, and his fly ball rate was the highest in that same group. If the improvements in strikeouts and control hold while the home run rate stabilizes, Lorenzen fits best as a matchup-based streaming option, particularly in environments that limit power. Losing streak continues
Lorenzen (2-7) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.
Analysis
Lorenzen took his fifth straight loss, three of which have come on the road. The veteran right-hander has surrendered 25 runs (24 earned) over 25 innings in that span, though he was able to limit both walks and home runs to one apiece Saturday. For the season, he's at an awful 7.21 ERA with a 1.90 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB through 53.2 innings over 12 outings (11 starts). Lorenzen is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Giants. His 10.03 ERA in five home starts this season makes him a pure fade even against the worst offense in the majors.

Having pitched for six different teams in the last four years, Lorenzen is approaching journeyman status. A first-time All-Star in 2023, he continued to pitch well between Texas and Kansas City last season around stints on the injured list due to neck and hamstring problems. He re-signed with the Royals for 2025 and should begin the season at the back end of the rotation. Lorenzen flipped a switch down the stretch, posting a 1.57 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in seven appearances (six starts) with the Royals following a deadline trade. The former two-way player has re-established himself as a capable MLB starter over the past few years after the Reds moved him to the bullpen early in his tenure with the club. Rarely do we see 33-year-olds reach new heights, especially ones with such modest strikeout and walk rates, but it's not completely out of the question with Lorenzen.

Lorenzen reached 10 years of service time in the major leagues Tuesday, reports Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
Analysis
It's a feat that's been accomplished by just 10 percent of all major-league players, and the milestone brings the benefit of a pension for any fully vested player. Lorenzen recorded the achievement in strong form as he delivered a quality start Monday against the Twins, and he has a 3.98 ERA across 370 games in his big-league career.
