2026 Fantasy Outlook
Semien's walk up song should have been Bob Seger's, "Like a Rock," because from 2015 to 2024, that is exactly what he was. He had an IL stint in 2017 but otherwise played in nearly every game possible for Oakland and Texas. That all came to a crashing end in 2025, as his worst statistical season on record finally came to a merciful end in August with a foot injury. Semien has played more games than any other active second baseman in baseball since 2015, and we know the position is not a forgiving one to older players. Semien enters his age-35 season in a new league and city after getting dealt to the Mets for Brandon Nimmo this offseason. He still has the foot speed, but the quality of his contact continues to decline, thus costing him one of those coveted higher spots in the lineup. He was a four-category contributor last season but nowhere near his previous levels. We only have to look to George Springer's 2025 renaissance to be reminded of how dangerous it can be to write off aging players so quickly. We are not recommending taking Semien for his previous volume or stature, but he's a likely everyday player with the upside to log the sixth 20/10 campaign of his career. Read Past Outlooks
Big game in win
Semien went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double and three total runs scored in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Rockies.
Analysis
Semien's four hits Wednesday matched the total from his previous seven games combined. The homer was his first since April 3 in San Francisco, and this was the first time he'd logged an extra-base hit since April 23 against the Twins. Semien is now batting .231 with a .602 OPS, two homers, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored, six doubles and four stolen bases over 36 contests. He's getting steady playing time but often hitting in the bottom half of the order due to his struggles at the plate early in the year -- he's hit above the No. 5 spot just once all season.

Like many other Rangers hitters, Semien struggled last season. The difference between Semien and most of his teammates is Semien's game is subject to more variance, and his underlying metrics were nearly identical to his recent levels, he simply didn't enjoy the same outcomes. Barrel rate, hard-hit rate and strikeout rate were typical. The only small change was a small drop in launch angle, generating fewer fly balls, resulting in Semien's fewest homers in a full season since 2018. He also failed to steal double-digit bases for the first time ever in a full season, but running often wanes in an off year. After missing just one game the prior three seasons, Semien was out for a whopping three. Semien is now 34 years old, so expecting a seventh consecutive full season with over 700 plate appearances is aggressive. He's still one of the best at a weaker position, but Semien can't get the same plaudits for durability and reliability as he could previously.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Finalist for Gold Glove
Semien is one of three second basemen nominated to win the 2025 Gold Glove Award in the American League, according to MLB.com.
Analysis
The other two finalists at second base are Luis Rengifo and Andres Gimenez. Semien didn't have his best year on offense in 2025, hitting a mere .230 with a .669 OPS, but his glove was excellent once again with plus-5 DRS. He was limited to only 127 regular-season contests and finished the year on the injured list due to a foot injury, but he's expected to be healthy to begin 2026.
