Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Torrens had an interesting 2025 season, especially behind the plate where he was simply incredible framing pitches and and preventing the running game. More simply, he was everything Francisco Alvarez was not. Torrens threw out 20 of 49 attempted thefts on the bases as the league's best stolen base deterrant, so the Mets could live with yet another sub-part level of statistics from the backstop at the plate. Yet, a peek under the hood shows some interesting qualities in this bat which get interesting as you consider how to fill your second catcher position in deep leagues. For all catchers with at least 200 batted ball events, Torrense was 10th in Barrel Rate and 5th in Hard Hit Rate. Do not expect that to translate into home runs as Torrens extra base hits were nearly all to the opposite field last season, but that quality of contact is why we see a sizable gap in his actual stats compared to his expected stats in batting average and slugging percentage. Do not get greedy, but something near his 2021 numbers would be just fine from the C2 position in deeper leagues. Read Past Outlooks
Playing time on upswing
Torrens got his third straight start Wednesday, and his work with the pitching staff could continue to earn him more playing time, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Francisco Alvarez got the start at DH in two of those contests as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza focuses his lineup construction on run prevention to help his struggling club. David Peterson in particular has pitched much better with Torrens behind the plate, so the 30-year-old could end up as the personal catcher for the southpaw. Through 42 plate appearances this season, however, Torrens has zero home runs and a .476 OPS that would be his worst mark since he was a rookie in 2017.

2021
Other then 2021 with the Mariners, Torrens has been a career backup. Last season, he occasionally spelled Francisco Alvarez, which will be Torrens role again this season. After fanning 30 percent of the time the prior two seasons, Torrens strikeout rate dropped to 21.5 percent fueling his most productive season since 2021. His defense has improved each of the past two years, adding to his appeal for the Mets, but not enough to be in the fantasy mix for anything but two-catcher NL-only formats, and even then, he's a batting average liability with limited pop and no speed.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Begins rehab assignment Friday
Torrens, who is out with left shoulder inflammation, played in his first rehab game for Single-A Everett on Friday.
Analysis
Torrens went 1-for-4 with a home run in his first game action since going on the injured list June 27. It seems likely that the 26-year-old will return to the Mariners sometime soon. Cal Raleigh is likely to still get the primary workload behind the plate but Torrens should still get a couple of starts a week and occasionally serve as the designated hitter when he's back.
