After beating out Hayden Birdsong for a spot in the Giants' 2025 Opening Day rotation, Roupp went on to make 22 starts before a comebacker off his left knee ended his season in August. Roupp had a bit of an elbow scare before that, but he was back throwing bullpen sessions by mid-September, which set him up for a relatively normal offseason. While Roupp's 1.48 WHIP was an eyesore, he was effective in terms of run prevention with a 3.80 ERA over 106.2 innings. His sinker was knocked around, but he held opponents below .200 on both his curveball and changeup. The 27-year-old is not going to overpower anyone with his stuff, and his walk rate is a bit high, but Roupp showed enough to safely project as a member of the starting rotation entering 2026. Analysis
The right-hander had a 3.80 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 102:45 K:BB across 22 starts last season and is expected to begin 2026 as a back-end starter for the Giants. Roupp's walk rate has been a bit of a concern, and that's remained the case during spring training with five free passes through nine innings. The 27-year-old has excelled in terms of run prevention with a 3.73 ERA through his first 45 big-league appearances, but Roupp's career 1.45 WHIP is much less attractive.

Roupp has risen from relative obscurity as a 12th-round pick out of UNC Wilmington in 2021. He was something of a surprise addition to the Giants' Opening Day roster last season, though he was sent down in late April after posting a 5.27 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in his first 13.2 innings out of the bullpen. The right-hander continued to pitch in relief at the big-league level in the months that followed while riding the shuttle between levels as San Francisco made full use of his option. He got a brief four-start audition in the rotation at the very end of the campaign, which was a success until his final outing. His sinker-curveball approach gives him a groundball lean and would make Roupp an interesting home streaming candidate at spacious Oracle Park if he were to nail down a rotation spot.
Roupp, a 6-foot-2 righty whom the Giants selected in the 12th round in 2021, leaned on his dominant curveball to excel across Single-A, High-A and Double-A. Scouts are split on whether he throws a curveball and a slider, or whether it's just one dominant breaking ball that he can manipulate the shape and velocity of. Regardless, lefties and righties alike couldn't lay off his secondary pitches, and Roupp compiled a 2.31 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 69:16 K:BB and 56% groundball rate in 50.2 innings over his final 10 starts of the year, split evenly across High-A and Double-A. He was one of the best pitchers in the minors last season when it came to generating weak contact and strikeouts, so while he doesn't have high-end fastball velocity, Roupp's recipe may continue to work at Double-A and Triple-A this season.
