2026 Fantasy Outlook
After being acquired from the Red Sox as the centerpiece of the trade that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston, Teel spent the first two months of the 2025 season knocking around Triple-A pitching before getting the call to the big leagues. The 24-year-old looked at home right away and finished with a wRC+ of 125 while boasting a 12.5 percent walk rate and .375 on-base percentage. Fellow catcher Edgar Quero beat Teel to the majors and also played well, but Teel received priority treatment behind the plate and against right-handed pitching, setting Teel up to be the team's top catcher in 2026. Teel's 25.9 percent strikeout rate was a tad high, and the left-handed hitter had just a .546 OPS in limited chances versus southpaws. That said, while Teel's ceiling from a power perspective might not be super high, he should continue to get on base at a high clip, and he's also a better bet than most catchers to chip in with some stolen bases. Moved to 10-day injured list
The White Sox placed Teel (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis
Teel went down with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain in mid-March while playing for Team Italy during the World Baseball Classic. The young catcher was given a 4-to-6 week timeline for recovery, and his progress so far suggests he has a chance to return closer to the front end of that timetable. While Teel is shelved, Edgar Quero and Reese McGuire will form Chicago's catching tandem.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Teel was traded from the Red Sox to the White Sox this offseason as the headliner in a four-prospect package that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston. The No. 14 overall pick in 2023, Teel dominated every pro league he played in before stumbling slightly (.255/.374/.343 slash line, two HR in 28 games) in his first taste of Triple-A. He is a pure hitter and on-base machine over a slugger, but he has enough pop to be a 15-20 homer threat thanks to his excellent hit tool and swing decisions. Teel has the glove and the arm to stick at catcher and play a lot during his peak seasons. He may end up being better in on-base percentage leagues than batting average leagues, but he should provide an above-average ratio in both formats relative to the position. Teel is a 45-grade runner, but he's opportunistic and could chip in a handful of steals (12-for-17 on the bases last year). Since Teel didn't dominate at Triple-A and isn't on the 40-man roster, we may not see him in the majors until May or June, but he's very close to being big-league ready. New teammate Edgar Quero is arguably an even better catching prospect than Teel and should beat Teel to the majors, and if they end up splitting the catching duties evenly long term it will cap each of their outputs.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not expected to leave Chicago
The White Sox aren't expected to trade Teel this offseason, Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
Analysis
The White Sox would be more inclined to trade Edgar Quero, though the club prefers to keep both backstops if possible. It's not difficult to understand why teams are keen on acquiring Teel via trade, but it seems the White Sox would have to receive a massive offer just to consider parting ways with him. He had a .786 OPS with eight homers over 78 games in his first taste of the majors last season.
