2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gausman continues to be a workhorse for the Blue Jays and closed the 2025 regular season with a 3.59 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 189:50 K:BB across 193 innings. His 10-11 record was underwhelming, particularly given Toronto's first-place finish in the AL East, but he's made at least 31 starts in five straight seasons and has a 3.34 ERA and 1.15 WHIP during that span. The right-hander saw his strikeout rate rebound three points to 24.4 percent, though that's still a fair bit lower than the average strikeout rate from the best stretch of his career (29.8 percent from 2020-2023). Even with the slightly less dominant stuff, Gausman has been reliable at the top of Toronto's starting rotation the past two years, though Dylan Cease may take over the ace label after inking a $210 million contract. There is some risk of a fall-off as Gausman begins his age-35 season, but he's yet to show any true signs of regression and is entering a contract year, so he should be a strong investment for fantasy managers again in 2026. Strong start wasted Saturday
Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Yankees, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over seven innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis
The veteran righty dominated a New York lineup missing Aaron Judge (ribs), generating 20 swinging strikes among his 105 pitches (66 total strikes), but the lone hit off Gausman was a solo shot by Jasson Dominguez in the fourth inning. It was an impressive return to form for Gausman after he'd been tagged four eight runs in 11 innings over his prior two outings, and Saturday's quality start was his first since May 22 and eighth of the year. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next weekend against the Cubs.

Gausman had a health scare during spring training when he developed a shoulder problem, which caused him to slide in some fantasy drafts. The right-hander avoided the injured list, however, and ultimately made 31 starts and threw 181 innings for the Blue Jays. Unfortunately, Gausman didn't look like the same guy, with his strikeout rate plummeting nearly 10 percentage points down to 21.4 percent. His velocity fluctuated from start to start and was down almost a full mph overall, and Gausman also didn't have the same feel for his trademark splitter, seeing his whiff rate on the pitch drop to easily a career-low 33.5 percent. Gausman did have three 10-strikeout games in 2024, offering hope that the swing-and-miss is still in there. However, it's fair to wonder whether he can rediscover it on a consistent basis in his age-34 season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Mulling retirement after season
Gausman said Wednesday that retiring after this season is "definitely a possibility," Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Gausman is in the final year of his five-year, $110 million contract. He just turned 35 and remains effective, having turned in a 3.59 ERA and 189:50 K:BB over 193 regular-season innings in 2025. Gausman could surely land another nice contract next offseason if he wants, but he isn't ruling out walking away after this year in order to spend more time with his family.
