Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
There once was a time when fantasy managers believed age 27 seasons were magical and players would break out and do well. Someone forgot to give that news to Josh Lowe, as he looked back on his troublesome 2024 and doubled down on it with another disappointing year. His 2023 season was as good as the last two have been dreadful. His playing time has been limited due to oblique injuries and an inability to handle left-handed pitching, and even his base-running prowess slipped last season, as he was caught as many times in 22 attempts as he had been in his previous 60 attempts. To make matters worse, his defense remains poor, so this very athletic looking young man has one skill (steals) that is impacted by his persistent health issues and his struggles to hit fastballs from righties or lefties. Simply put, this is an end-game option at best until he turns something around, because he is barely playing replacement level baseball these days. Being traded to the Angels in January is a welcome change of scenery given his recent trajectory. Read Past Outlooks
Homers in loss Tuesday
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the White Sox.
Analysis
Lowe's homer in the eighth inning off Jordan Leasure was his fourth of the season and first since April 17. The 28-year-old has really struggled at the plate in his first season with the Halos, slashing .192/.250/.370 with the four long balls, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, one stolen base and a 5:22 BB:K across 81 plate appearances. After swiping 75 bases for the Rays from 2023-25, Lowe was expected to be a source of power and speed from the left side for the Angels. He has a career-low 26.5 percent hard-hit rate.

2017
2024 was not technically Lowe's sophomore season, but it was his second full season at the bigs, so throwing the sophomore slump label on his season is appropriate. Lowe's most redeeming skill remains his adeptness at stealing bases, as he was caught but once in 26 tries in 2024 and has now successfully swiped 94 percent of his career attempts. The downsides were aplenty as spring injuries delayed the start of his season until early May and then an oblique injury shortly thereafter led to more missed time. Once Lowe was finally able to stay on the field, a .262/.320/.403 second half was much improved from a .211/.278/.374 first half, yet the bigger concern was the lack of contact. Lowe's strikeout rate spiked from 24.8 percent to 31.8 percent over just one season and he particularly struggled against fastballs, hitting .229 against a steady diet of 2024 heat versus the .298 he hit against the same pitch type in 2023. He could return to form, but the health issues of 2024 are a fresh reminder of the Lowe's downside.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be ready for Opening Day
Lowe, who's battling left oblique soreness, is expected to be healthy for Opening Day, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.
Analysis
Manager Kurt Suzuki revealed earlier this week that the goal is to have Lowe seeing action as soon as Friday, and that should give the outfielder plenty of time to be ready for Opening Day. If healthy, Lowe should see time alongside Mike Trout and Jo Adell, and he could also see time at designated hitter.
