2026 Fantasy Outlook
After spending 2024 in the Red Sox organization with Triple-A Worcester, Alexander signed a minor league deal with the Athletics. He reached the majors after a few weeks at Triple-A Las Vegas but was quickly optioned, then recalled once more before being released. The Astros picked him up and assigned him to Triple-A Sugar Land, and after a couple of brief promotions, Alexander stuck in the rotation following the All-Star break, finishing with 13 starts and one relief appearance for Houston. He was serviceable with a 3.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, though supported by a low .273 BABIP and an elevated 79.8 percent left on base that would be difficult to sustain over a larger sample. Alexander is currently penciled into the Astros' rotation, but a strikeout rate higher than last season's 19.3 percent will be needed to soften expected regression. Read Past Outlooks
Cut from big-league camp
The Astros optioned Alexander to minor-league camp Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
The veteran right-hander had a 4.77 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 65:26 K:BB across 77.1 innings between Atlanta and Houston last season but was never a likely bet to crack the Astros' Opening Day roster. Alexander is likely to work out of the rotation at Triple-A Sugar Land to begin 2026 and could get another look in the majors as a swingman at some point this year.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Alexander joined the Brewers in November 2021 as a 28-year-old seemingly making his next stop on his trip around the minors. However, he pitched so well over his first nine appearances with Triple-A Nashville that, when Milwaukee needed a starter in late May, it was Alexander who got the call. He went 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA over his first five starts with the Brewers, but opposing hitters figured him out, and he posted a 6.80 ERA at the big-league level the rest of the way. Alexander does not stand out in one area, and no fewer than six starters sit ahead of him on the depth chart, so his 2023 campaign is destined to begin in Nashville. He could earn another look in the big leagues, but even if he does, fantasy players may only be able to count on his innings.
