Grabs first save with Pittsburgh
Beeks earned the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one hit in one-third of an inning.
ANALYSIS
After Aroldis Chapman pitched in Tuesday's contest, David Bednar was initially called upon to close out a 3-0 lead Wednesday. However, the Pirates would turn to Beeks with two outs in the ninth to face the left-handed Kyle Stowers after Bednar gave up a run on a pair of hits. Beeks would allow an infield hit to Stowers that loaded the bases before inducing a flyout from Xavier Edwards to close out a two-run victory. It's the 10th save of the year for the 31-year-old Beeks, his first since joining the Pirates from the Rockies at the trade deadline. Beeks has pitched well for Pittsburgh, posting a 2.30 ERA across 15.2 innings, though he's still likely behind Chapman, Bednar and Dennis Santana in the Pirates' bullpen hierarchy.

2018
Beeks made a full recovery from his late 2020 Tommy John Surgery and pitcked up right where he left off as both an opener as well as a bulk reliever in the middle innings. The changeup, which was rebuilt after his acquisition from Boston in 2018, is now his primary weapon and gives him three pitches with at least a 25% whiff rate on the season. His approach is simple as hitters are either seeing a zigzagging fastball or a fading changeup as Beeks lacks an effective pitch with a wrinkle. If reverse splits were a real thing, Beeks would be a poster child for that because that fastball/changeup approach allows him too be more effective against righties than the traditional lefty/lefty strength one would imagine he would have. Until he can figure out some type of breaking ball, his future is unlikely to change as he is just as likely to pitch the first inning of a game as he a late inning if the lineup is stacked with righties. His volume can help you with ratios and somewhat in strikeouts, but his utilization limits his abilities to earn decisions.

ANALYSIS
The left-hander has six saves and has operated in a consistent high-leverage role for Colorado this season. Beeks has a 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 27:14 K:BB across 32.2 innings. He'll hit free agency after the season and shouldn't require a significant package to acquire.
