2026 Fantasy Outlook
Carter's career has taken a hit since a promising cameo late in 2023. Since then, he was limited to 45 games in 2024 due to back issues and was left off the Opening Day roster in 2025. He eventually made it back to the majors in early May when the Rangers cut ties with Leody Taveras. Unfortunately, Carter was limited due to more injuries: a quad strain in May and back issues in August. Upon his return from the back spasm-induced stay on the IL, he slashed 308/.419/.462 over eight games before a broken wrist ended his season after 63 games. It was another unfortunate turn of events for Carter, who had been receiving an extended leash against left-handed pitchers, against whom he has batted .087 with a .337 OPS during his MLB career. A November update indicated the wrist was 90 percent healed, and a normal offseason was expected. The Rangers need to improve offensively in 2025, and Carter should be given a role as the primary starter in center field against righties at the very least. Read Past Outlooks
Drives in three runs Tuesday
Carter went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, two total runs and three total RBI in a 10-7 win against the Astros on Tuesday.
Analysis
Carter had a key hit in Texas' eight-run first inning, driving in two runners with a triple to right field. He added a solo homer in the third and finished with his first three-hit performance of the season. Carter badly needed a big game, as he'd gone 2-for-24 over his previous nine contests entering Tuesday. He's still slashing a paltry .178/.293/.350 overall, though he does have six homers, establishing a career-high mark.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2023
Carter's arrow was pointing firmly up at this time last year. He flourished during a late-season promotion to the Rangers and kept that up during the playoffs as the Rangers rolled to a World Series title. Unfortunately, the 2024 campaign wound up being a lost one for the youngster. Carter had dealt with back problems off and on since entering pro ball and last year didn't play in a game after late May because of a lower-back stress reaction. He eventually underwent an ablation procedure, which he and the Rangers hope allow him to finally put the nagging issues behind him. Carter's numbers when on the field in 2024 were dreadful, but it's tempting to completely throw them out the window since he was never healthy. The left-handed batter hasn't hit southpaws in the majors or minors, so a strong-side platoon could await him in 2025. However, that and the injury concerns figure to make the draft-day cost minimal, and the skills that made Carter a top prospect remain.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Demotion not yet considered
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy indicated Friday that he has yet to think about a potential demotion for Carter, reports Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News.
Analysis
Carter had a solid start to his MLB career by hitting .306 in 23 games last year and finished April with five homers and a .776 OPS, but he's batting just .132 in May and is without a hit in his past 20 at-bats. The 21-year-old already isn't seeing starts against left-handed pitching, and more time on the bench isn't a solution for a prized prospect. A trip to the minors could be in store if Carter's struggles continue to linger, but for now it appears he'll continue to serve as Texas' primary left fielder versus right-handed pitching.
