2026 Fantasy Outlook
It was mostly more of the same for Swanson in 2025, which resulted in another solid fantasy campaign for the veteran shortstop. The 31-year-old hit 24 home runs, and he's now reached the 20-homer plateau four times over the past five seasons. He also tallied 77 RBI and posted a .717 OPS, both of which were in line with his typical numbers. Perhaps the most promising aspect of Swanson's 2025 campaign was his career-high 20 stolen bases. Since the start of the 2024 season, he's swiped 39 bases, which is more than he had in the prior three years combined. There are certainly shortstops with higher ceilings, and Swanson isn't getting any younger, but there's still plenty here to like. He plays nearly every day, and as long as Swanson approaches 20 homers and steals again in 2026, he should remain a useful fantasy option with a fairly reliable floor. Read Past Outlooks
Caps historic doubleheader
Swanson went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in the Cubs' 10-5 win over the Mets in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Analysis
Just hours after erupting for two homers and seven RBI in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, Swanson stayed red hot by delivering a four-RBI performance. His biggest swing came in the sixth inning, when he ripped a go-ahead RBI triple to give Chicago a lead it would never surrender. He also recorded his 10th stolen base of the year in the ninth inning. Swanson's 11 RBI across the doubleheader set a Cubs franchise record, and he has now totaled three homers and 15 RBI through the first three games of the series after entering Tuesday with just 14 RBI over his previous 48 contests. The veteran shortstop also extended his hitting streak to six games, with four straight multi-hit efforts while batting .478 (11-for-23) during that stretch.

Swanson was one of the worst-hitting regulars in baseball for the first four months last season, slashing a sickly .219/.291/.346 with nine home runs and seven stolen bases in 99 contests. He got hot over the final two months to salvage his campaign, collecting a .283/.351/.471 batting line with seven long balls and 12 steals. However, Swanson's batted-ball data was actually worse from August on, so it might simply have been the result of some BABIP luck. Swanson's ground ball rate has been way up in his first two seasons with the Cubs as compared to his last few years in Atlanta, which includes a career-high 49.9 percent ground ball rate in 2024. The 31-year-old could easily return to being a 20-plus home hitter if he can reverse that trend. Even if he doesn't, Swanson offers a safe floor.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Personal issues prompt cramping
Swanson said he was physically and emotionally exhausted before leaving Tuesday's win over the Mariners with left side cramping, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.
Analysis
It's less of an injury situation and more of a personal one, as the 29-year-old spent most of the day at the hospital after his wife, USWNT soccer player Mallory Swanson, required major knee surgery. Swanson still provided plenty of production before leaving the contest, as he went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run. He's out of the lineup Wednesday and will also have Thursday's team off day to rest up before likely returning to the lineup Friday against the Dodgers.
